Students demonstrate an understanding of key principles of effective communication for professional purposes. They can achieve communication objectives in a range of work-related situations, modify their communication style according to context and the requirements of the message, and manage interpersonal interactions with people from different backgrounds. Spoken fluency and range are sufficient to manage common professional situations. Writing shows satisfactory control of grammar and lexis for the production of standard professional messages.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Students demonstrate a good understanding of the principles of effective communication for professional purposes. They are able to achieve communication objectives in a range of work-related situations with a degree of success and can adapt their communication style to suit the requirements of audience and context. Speech is fluent, with a high degree of grammatical and propositional control. Writing shows good control of grammar, lexis, and style in a range of texts for professional purposes.

The structure of the National exam:

The national test consists of two parts. In the theory exam, the questions are statements, multiple choice, gap-fill or combination assignments, and case assignments. Theoretical exam contains 100 questions about the nurse's competence requirements:

1. Professionalism and ethics

2. Client-centred care

3. Communication and multi-professionalism

4. Health promotion

5. Leadership and professional co-operation skills of the employee

6. Information technology and documentation

7. Guidance and education competence and supporting self-care

8. Clinical nursing

9. Evidence-based practice, utilization of research knowledge and decision-making

10. Entrepreneurship and development

11. Quality management

12. Service system of health care and social welfare services

13. Patient and client safety

The second part of the national exam consists of different drug calculation assignments: dosage calculations, infusion calculations, mixture and solution calculations and gas calculations.
At the end of the exams, there are few questions about your background information. You will also be asked for feedback on the exam and exam arrangements. Background information, time spent on the exams, exam success and feedback on the exam and exam arrangements will be collected nationwide. Information will be collected anonymously. The results compiled from the data are reported in such a way that individual respondent cannot be identified. Based on the feedback and results, exams and exam arrangements can be further developed.

Instructions related to the national exam before the test:

You will need your own computer and a computer power cord with you for the test. You can borrow a computer from the school on time by contacting the lobby hosts.
In addition, you will need a pen, eraser, sharpener and photo ID.
Eating snacks is prohibited during the test. You will get a concept for calculating medical bills from the teacher. When calculating invoices, you can use a calculator.


Log in to the DigiCampus website with your haka credentials no later than the day before the exam.

Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- communicate in oral and written Swedish in work life situations in their own sector at proficiency level B1 of t the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and at the level required under section 7 of the Government Decree on Universities of Applied Sciences (1129/2014)
- tell about the studies and tasks of the Nurse/Public Health Nurse, discuss illnesses and health matters as a professional and meet the patient in different types of nursing situations
- use the key Swedish language health sector terminology used by professionals
- develop their interaction, communication, information search and reporting skills in Swedish in professional situations in health care sector
- develop their professional language skills by using different types of learning techniques and tools
