The structure of the National exam:
The national test consists of two parts. In the theory exam, the questions are statements, multiple choice, gap-fill or combination assignments, and case assignments. You can spend up to 3 hours doing both experiments. In a theory test, incorrect answers can lose points for multiple choice questions with more than one correct answer.
Theoretical exam contains 100 questions about the nurse's competence requirements:

5. Leadership and professional co-operation skills of the employee
6. Information technology and documentation
7. Guidance and education competence and supporting self-care
8. Clinical nursing

11. Quality management
12. Service system of health care and social welfare services
13. Patient and client safety
The second part of the national exam consists of different drug calculation assignments: dosage calculations, infusion calculations, mixture and solution calculations and gas calculations.

The national exam (180 ECTS) includes studies for bachelors of nursing, public health nurse, midwifery and paramedic as well as deaconess degree students.
The purpose of the national examination of core competence in nursing (180 ECTS) is to ensure that all graduating nurses have the competence of a nurse responsible for general nursing (180 ECTS) in accordance with the EU directive.
The student participates in the exam after completing approximately 180 ECTS credits. The exam is part of the approved completion of the course and therefore the exam must be completed before graduation.
The degree certificate includes a national final exam performance clause for the student.
Instructions related to the national exam before the test:
You will need your own computer and a computer power cord with you for the test. You can borrow a computer from the school on time by contacting the lobby hosts.
In addition, you will need a pen, eraser, sharpener and photo ID.
Eating snacks is prohibited during the test. You will get a concept for calculating medical bills from the teacher. When calculating invoices, you can use a calculator.
Log in to the DigiCampus website with your haka credentials no later than the day before the exam.

Theory exam:
pass: at least 65 points, or 65% of the maximum (100 points)
fail: less than 65 points
Medication calculations:
pass 5/5 points
fail: less than 5 points
The student must pass both the theory test and the medical calculus test in order to pass the Nurse´s Core Competences (180 Ects) National Exam.
Retakes are carried out on the general retake days of the campuses and enrollment is done from Intra.

- use evidence-based information and recommendations in decision-making related to nursing care of seriously ill or palliative care patients
- apply their knowledge of serious illnesses when supporting the patient's functional capacity, rehabilitation and coping
- identify the needs and special features related to interation and guidance when the patient is seriously ill
- describe the significance of suffering, quality of life and the overall treatment in the care of seriously ill or palliative patients
- describe the procedures and principles related to the confirmation of death
- describe the importance of the significant others in the care of seriously ill patients and the methods of supporting them
- implement rehabilitation and coping of a seriously ill patient as part of a multiprofessional network
- analyse the support given to seriously ill patient in rehabilitation and coping in a client-oriented care and care impact perspectives
- describe the special features associated with medication treatment of seriously ill or palliative patients
- utilise the evidence-based information and recommendations in the care of seriously ill or palliative patients
- analyse ethical and legal perspectives related to the end of life
- integrate their own personal competence as set out in the national competence requirements for nurses
Toteutustapa
The course includes scheduled teaching both on campus and in Canvas. On-campus face-to-face sessions primarily consist of lessons, workshops and simulations. Attendance is mandatory for workshops and simulations.This course contains two modules.
