Time: On Tuesdays 16:00-18:00 EET: 5.9.2023 - 26.9.2023
Location: Online on Futudemy platfrom! Link in Canvas LMS

The course is useful for students in service design, digital services, computer science, business studies, security management, project management, entrepreneurship, or future studies.

Content
In Futudemy we will practice digital service design skills with real cases using data and smart technologies. Even the most traditional and human-centric industries are becoming more data- and digitally-driven. You need to be able to work together with people with different skills to solve new problems.
- Service designers can create better services if they know how to include data, AI-based solutions, and automation in customer journeys.
- IT students or professionals gain more experience in how to solve business problems with data and technology.
- Business people learn to recognize and utilize the possibilities of data, APIs, and other smart technologies in business development.

This course is based on Futudemy, a unique idea development concept created by Osaango Oy. The course features 4 x 2h Futudemy sessions, where you’ll generate new service ideas.

Even if you have no prior experience, you will learn how to make your idea “smarter” by using data and a technology called APIs (application programming interfaces), which is essential to using data and smart technologies. Learn more about APIs: https://youtu.be/cAC66ZkYb3M

Everyone needs to work on their idea actively, but you will innovate together with other students, partners, and mentors, such as Cisco and Osaango. You will need a few hours outside the joint session to develop the ideas further.

Methods
- This is a remote course with live sessions on the Futudemy platform.
- You will receive further information and materials during the first session.
- You will collaborate with other students during the sessions, but the final work will be assessed individually.

Sessions
Due to the learning experience, attending all of the online sessions is mandatory.

Learning objectives
After attending Futudemy, you will:
- Be able to use new methods to generate creative ideas
- Know how to use APIs, data, and smart technology as part of your service design
- Know how to work with a multi-disciplined team of business, industry, data, and IT experts to develop new ideas and solutions
- Be able to create a prototype of a future-ready idea that solves a business problem using data and smart technologies
- Have an idea you can develop further or put in your portfolio

Evaluation
The course will be evaluated with a pass/fail grade.

Työelämäyhteistyö ja/tai TKI

This course is provided by Osaango Oy. In this course you will have technology companies as mentors, such as Cisco.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

“The evaluation of competence is based on the descriptions of objectives in the curricula, and the level of competence is assessed according to the evaluation criteria listed in the implementation plan for the studies.” (Laurea degree regulations).

What do you need to do in order to complete this study unit?

The study unit is assessed as either a pass or a fail. Instructions for passing the study unit are set out below.

Go through the Canvas materials in order. Each content includes information on what you need to do in order to proceed.

Keep a learning diary. The study units includes 10 assignments in which you will be asked to note down a few observations of your experiences with practical experiments. You can make the entries as comprehensive as you want. You can also choose the most natural way for you to keep the learning diary. For example, you can write about your thoughts, draw them, make an audio recording or a video, or compile series of images of your thoughts. You will not submit the learning diary itself and your entries will not be assessed, but at the end of the three modules, you will be asked to participate in a discussion based on your entries.

Participate in discussions. The study unit requires participation in three discussions. In these discussions, you will share a few comments about your own experiences with the assignments. You can choose what to share and how widely you share your experiences. Your responses will not be separately assessed, and participation in the discussion will be considered a pass. Your discussion responses will be visible to the course coordinator/teacher and other course participants.

Submit your assignments. The study units includes two assignments in which you will either submit a file or answer a few questions. In you choose to submit a file, you can choose the format in which you will submit the assignment. Your assignments will not be assessed separately. A submitted file or answers to the questions will be considered a pass, depending on the assignment. The submissions you have made will be treated in confidence and they will only be viewed by the course coordinator/teachers.

Complete the multiple-choice tests. The study unit includes four short multiple-choice tests. For passing the assignment, you must answer at least half of the answers correctly (such as 4/8). You may take the test several times.

The submissions you make will be treated confidentially. The submissions will only be reviewed by the course coordinator/teachers, and they will be stored in the system for at least six months. On this course, teachers will not assess your submissions or give feedback on them, but a submitted assignment is already sufficient for a pass. However, teachers can perform spot checks on the submitted assignments, so please complete them carefully. The assignments are designed to support your learning, and you can make use of your work after the course.

All study assignments are to be done as individual work unless otherwise instructed.

The student is entitled to apply for accreditation of prior competence regardless of where, how and when the competence has been acquired. The student may also seek accreditation of competence to be acquired on the job as part of their degree (work-based learning). ... The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence and for providing sufficient information.
