The first steps in thesis preparation are the selection and analysis of the topic. Read more about the process on the Thesis page on LINK. The thesis preparation includes acting as an opponent to another student’s thesis, presenting one’s own work, evaluation discussion and completing the maturity test.
Step-by-step instructions for Safety, Security and Risk Management students are available in Canvas workspace.
“The maturity test, which is part of the thesis, is taken by the student in Finnish or Swedish, in accordance with the Decree on Universities of Applied Sciences. Students who have received their formal education outside of Finland or in a language other than Finnish or Swedish take the maturity test in either Finnish or English.” (Laurea degree regulations.)
The thesis evaluation guidelines are provided on LINK (Study path > Evaluations and Retakes). The evaluation criteria are included in Laurea’s thesis guidelines.
All staff and students of Laurea are expected to adhere to good scientific practices, which includes appropriate referencing. Familiarise yourself with the practices and, if needed, ask for more information. All study assignments are to be done as individual work unless otherwise instructed. Urkund is used when assignments are checked.

One of the main ideas of this study unit is to help students to start planning their own thesis. It would be good if the student has a topic for the thesis beforehand the study unit begins. This would speed up the actual thesis process. You may begin the study unit even though you do not have the topic yet in mind and you do not have to start the actual thesis during this study unit.

Completed higher education studies can be accredited based on the degree certificate and transcript of records as studies substituting compulsory core competence or as studies included in complementary degree studies. Certificate-based accreditation of prior learning only applies to degree students.
The content of prior studies is assessed in relation to the learning outcomes of the degree. Studies completed over ten years ago usually cannot be accepted in the degree based on certificates alone. Instead, another demonstration of competence is also required.
As a rule, leadership studies completed during military service can be recognised in a degree offered by a university of applied sciences. Those who have completed the non-commissioned officer course can get studies worth 3 credits accredited and those who have completed the reserve officer course can get studies worth 5 credits accredited in their degree.

Kontaktiopetusta ja runsaasti itsenäistä työskentelyä. Tarkempi ohjeistus Optimassa.
(not translated)

Understanding customers can be challenging. How do we define what is valuable for an individual customer? What about organizations as customers? Today, many of the trends are international, but their local interpretation and implementation may still be very multifold. The study of the human mind has gone a long way, but part of the mind’s operations, especially on individual level, still remain difficult to forecast.
During this course we will define the factors that underlie customer actions, feelings, and judgment processes. We strive to understand purchasing decisions from the perspective of the individual and the organization, and analyze patterns and trends in customer behaviour.
