Osaamistavoitteet

Opiskelija osaa:
- määrittää riskienhallinnalle ja turvallisuuden johtamiselle asetetut vaatimukset, parhaat käytännöt sekä soveltaa niitä
- arvioida ja hallita organisaatioiden riskejä kokonaisvaltaisesti
- suunnitella, arvioida ja kehittää riskienhallintaa ja turvallisuusjohtamista
- johtaa turvallisuustoimintoja normaali-, häiriö- ja kriisitilanteissa
- arvioida ja kehittää turvallisuuskulttuuria

Toteutustapa

The study unit will be implemented as a blended learning format throughout the spring semester of 2024, meaning that, in addition to independent study, there will be three separate instances of the contact teaching sessions at the Leppävaara campus, which will not be recorded nor live-streamed. Additionally, scheduled guidance meetings will be held through Teams or Zoom. Participation in contact teaching sessions and guidance meetings are optional but highly recommended. The study unit requires active engagement and commitment to interactive learning.

You will study within the comprehensive learning environment built in Canvas, which includes study materials and assignments. The Canvas workspace will be accessible on January 9, 2024, at 9:00 AM. The schedule and assignment deadlines are provided in the Canvas timetable, as well as in Pakki's calendar.

During the study unit, there will be several different learning assignments available, which will be completed in pairs. Choose with your pair one assignment from the T1 module and another from the T2-T8 modules. The online exam is an individual task. Submit the assignment returns in Canvas, through which you will receiver feedback from the lecturers.The T1 assignment shall also be submitted to the Teams workspace, where the industry partner will provide you feedback.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

According to Laurea's degree regulations, "All students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognized and accredited by the teacher responsible for the studies or another person designated to the position.

The assessment is carried out according to the same assessment criteria and, as a rule, same grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit or module.

The student is entitled to apply for accreditation of prior competence regardless of where, how and when the competence has been acquired. The student may also seek accreditation of competence to be acquired on the job as part of their degree (work-based learning). The competence to be accredited must be in line with the learning outcomes of the degree programme’s curriculum. The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence and for providing sufficient information.

Students should apply for the accreditation of prior competence at the beginning of their studies, so they can progress in their studies without interruption. However, students are entitled to apply for accreditation of prior competence throughout their studies."

Työelämäyhteistyö ja/tai TKI

In Module 1, there are different learning assignments available, which are made in close collaboration with the industry partner. Outputs developing of organizational risk management and safety & security culture are produced for the industry partner. Moreover, in the learning assignments of modules T2-T8, the knowledge base of risk management and organizational resilience are reflected from the perspective of a real organization.

Toteutuksen tärkeät päivämäärät

The study unit will begin with contact teaching session on January 12, 2024, from 15:15 to 17:45.

The deadline for submitting Assignment 1 of Module 1 is March 19, 2024, at 23:59. The resubmission dates are April 9, 2024, and April 23, 2024, at 23:59.

The deadline for submitting assignments for Modules 2-8 is May 9, 2024. The resubmission dates are May 30 and June 13, 2024, at 23:59.

The online exam will take place from May 24, 2024, starting at 8:00, to May 25, 2024, at 23:59. The first retake exam will be held from May 31, 2024, starting at 8:00, to June 1, 2024, at 23:59, and the second retake exam will be held from June 7, 2024, starting at 8:00, to June 8, 2024, at 23:59.

According to Section 18 of the examination regulations "Students must be present for the first contact teaching session, or they must notify the responsible teacher of their absence to confirm they intend to participate in studies, Alternatively, the teacher can specify a different manner for the student to confirm that they intend to participate in the studies. The completion of these measures can be required within a week of the studies having begun. The application of the aforementioned approach requires that the teacher notifies the students accepted to the study unit of the practice and that the practice is specifically mentioned in the study unit’s implementation plan.
If the student has a justified reason for not attending the first contact teaching session or for not notifying the teacher of their intention to be involved in studies in the manner required by the teacher, the student must contact the responsible teacher to agree on participation in the studies. Their registration for the study unit will be rejected, of the student does not notify the teacher of being absent from the first contact teaching session or the reason for their absence cannot be considered justified, Another student who is in line for the study unit can be selected in their place."

International connections are highlighted in the knowledge base. The study unit covers international standards in risk,safety and security management, In the lecture materials, international experts describe how risk management and risk-based safety & security management are practically implemented.

The study unit is 10 credits, which means a total of 270 hours work per student distributed as follows:
Participation in contact teaching sessions and joint meetings: 16 hours
Independent study and preparation for the exam: 148 hours
Completion of two learning assignments: 53 hours/ learning assignment/student; total 106 hours /student.

You will learn to build a strong foundation for risk management by integrating it into the organization's management system and decision-making. You will identify the key principles of risk management, the resources needed, and the critical role of the top management.

Module 2: Standards
You will be able to utilize quality and management system standards in practical risk, safety and security management within the organization.

Module 3: Documentation
You will learn the importance of comprehensive documentation in risk, safety and security management.

Module 4: Legislation
You will learn the legal requirements in risk, safety and security management.

Module 5: Resilience and Insurance
You will learn how risk management and resilience complement each other and understand the connection between insurance and risk management in organizational risk management.

Module 6: Auditing and Measurement
You will learn how to evaluate and measure an organization's risk, safety and security management according to the principles of continuous improvement.

Module 7: Developing Risk, Safety and Security Management
You will learn to identify the impact of culture on organizational risk, safety and safety management.

Module 8: Crisis Management and Communication
You will learn how to manage crises and furthermore, plan and implement effective crisis communication.

Lisätietoja opiskelijoille

The study unit meets the requirements of the level required for a university of applied sciences (AMK) degree program.
The implementation of this study unit has been designed according to the quality criteria of education. Self-assessment is available to students in Canvas.
Five student places are reserved for open university of applied sciences students and another five student places for exchange students in this implementation.

Students enrolling in the study unit shall have sufficient knowledge of the fundamentals of risk, safety and security management, which can be acquired, for example, by completing the courseTO00BS57 Basic Theory of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (5 credits).

The approved completion of the study unit requires completing two assignments and an online exam. The online exam is considered to be passed when you receive at least 17 points from it. The maximum points of the study unit are 100 points. The overall completion of the study unit is failed if the total points obtained from the two assignments and the exam is less than 50 points.
