Teaching methods

Project implementation mode: the project will be carried out as a P2P project in cooperation with the University del Desarrollo Project Group (https://www.udd.cl/about-us/) AND with companies from both countries looking to expand business in Finland/EU and Chile/Latin America.

Project content: International Business Development, target market research (macro- and microlevel), business opportunities identification, client search, partner search. Cross-cultural communication and teamwork. Service Design.
The aim (15 credits) is that the student is able to
- research and manage customer / market potential
- analyze and use business reports in projects
- utilize Service Design framework in developing sustainable solutions for the project clients
- use strategic planning, analysis and decision making tools in project contexts
- make business decisions in various project contexts

The project is completed in cooperation with a working life partner in a P2P learning environment. Working life partner is to be confirmed.

The enrolled students will develop their competencies related to the study in question during this project implementation.

Interactive online implementation:
The project is conducted online and does not require attendance on campus. The project includes, in addition to teamwork, scheduled guidance online, which is not recorded and requires participation. An independently studied part (in Canvas) supports the project implementation. Studying requires active participation and commitment to interactive project work. You will receive individual feedback for assignments from the teacher, and working life or peer feedback are also utilised.

Project’s guidance and working sessions can be viewed in Timetable Engine / Tuudo. Communication practices are agreed on a project-specific basis.

According to the degree regulations (2024), "Students are entitled to apply for recognition of prior learning regardless of where, when and how the competence has been acquired. ... At Laurea, there are two different procedures for the recognition and accreditation of prior learning: a) accreditation of prior learning (competence acquired in higher education studies at another institution) and b) demonstration of competence (competence acquired in other ways). The recognition and accreditation of prior learning is initiated by the student themselves. The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence. Kick-Off (mandatory participation):September 3rd 1400 o'clock.
It is compulsory to participate in the project kickoff meeting so that everyone participating in the project will receive the information on the project task.

Project guidance is offered on a weekly basis. The student can compare the available guidance sessions in Timetable Engine and select those projects/studies that do not overlap.

According to the degree regulations (2024) "the student must be present at the first contact lesson or notify the teacher in charge of their absence to confirm their participation in the study. Registration will be rejected if the student does not report their absence at the start of the study or the reason for the absence cannot be considered justified. Another student can be taken in their place. In project studies the first contact lesson is the first meeting of the project team and guiding lecture(s).

Forms of internationality

The project is suitable for exchange students.
University Del Desarrollo is academic cooperation partner. Additionally there will be two companies looking to expand their operations in Chile/Latin America and Finland/EU.

The project will be implemented with a team of students and staff from University del Desarrollo, students will be divided to smaller working teams so that Finnish and Chilean students work together. Guidance is provided by Chilean and Finnish lecturer.

Students workload

Workload of the study is measured in a way that to acquire the goal competence of the study, one credit corresponds to an average of 26.7 hours of work done by the student. The actual time needed varies e.g. according to prior competence.

Market research, market analysis, data-driven decision making, service design, international marketing, international sales, international teamwork, cross-cultural working

This study implementation is a P2P project meaning that the project is completed in a small group and guided by a teacher. Participating in the project requires attendance in the project guidance meetings and group meetings.

The prerequisite for participation is always that the possible competence prerequisites according to the curriculum (previous study or similar competence) are fulfilled. The student is responsible for taking into account the prerequisite conditions.

The quality of the study unit implementation has been assessed and the self-evaluation report is available for example in Canvas or Teams.

"Competence assessment is based on the descriptions of objectives in the curricula, and the level of competence is assessed according to the assessment criteria listed in the implementation plan for the studies." (Laurea degree regulations 2024).

Evaluation is discussed at the beginning of the project.

In this study unit the assessing of the competences will be done by using the criteria set for requirement level II.

International Client and assignment by Brazilian Company U.Experience.
The project team will have every few weeks virtual client meetings with U.Experience - in the afternoon when Brazil wakes up.
All material will be produced in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Translating: Spanish/Portuguese speaking (exchange/Laurea) students and if necessary the translations can be made also by the client, U.Experience. AI tools will also used for translating.

International Sales and Marketing, Client & Partner Search in Consumer Goods Sector

The project is completed in cooperation with a working life partner in a P2P learning environment. Working life partner is a Finnish company operating in fast moving consumer goods industry in drinks/food sector. The company is looking to expand operations internationally, project team will investigate potential market(s), target consumer groups and potential partners in new international market(s).

The enrolled students will develop their competencies related to the study in question during this project implementation.

- Regular joint sessions will facilitate the exchange of ideas, ensuring that the service design principles are accurately translated into the digital marketing strategy.
- Through this synergy, students will learn the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, and adapting strategies based on real-time feedback.

International market entry and business development project.
The project is completed in cooperation with a working life partner in a P2P learning environment. The student is able to:

- define internationalization strategies and determinants of success in exporting
- analyse internationalisation modes of companies in different sectors

The enrolled students will develop their competencies related to the study in question during this project implementation. The student will participate in project working as a senior level student.

Daytime learning:
An independently studied part supports the project implementation, but it is important to take part in project teamwork and guidance on campus according to schedule.
