Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- understand the theoretical basis of arts and creative methods within the social context
- use creative methods to empower a sense of community in a multicultural environment
- understand creative expression as an alternative way of communication
- use creative methods to strengthen the inclusion of clients

Teaching methods

The study unit includes aspects of cultural acquisition, creativity and empowerment.Creative methods are introduced and facilitated for empowering multi-cultural clients.

Having completed the study unit the student is able to:

- describe key terms used in intercultural theory
- apply creative methods to empower a sense of inclusion in multicultural environment
- use creative methods to strengthen the inclusion of clients
- develop one´s ability to work in a multicultural team
- appreciate the equivalent needs of different group members

International connections

This course is also offered to students from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Switzerland and UCLL, Belgium.

5 ECTS equals 135 hours of work:

Contact lessons: 36 hours

Further information

According to Laurea's Degree regulations it is compulsory to attend the first session in order to keep the place on the course.

To be able to pass the course the student is required to attend 80 % of the contact lessons and show active participation during the lessons.

Evaluation will be based on active participation and reflection of the group process and creative methods assignments.

To pass the course the student must be able to:

- demonstrate his/her familiarity with the knowledge basis
- return, report and communicate in a professional manner according to Laurea´s guide lines
- evaluate information, draw conclusions and combine theoretical knowledge with experiential knowledge
- act independently and take responsibility for interaction with other group members and/or co-operation partners and for responding to their needs
- describe the development of his/her competence in relation to the learning outcomes in his/her written report
- act in a manner that promotes the team’s entrepreneurial and responsible approach to work
