Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- apply requirements set by legislation, directives and guidelines regarding security and safety management and risk management
- apply enterprise risk management methods to identify, evaluate and manage risks
- create a security and safety management system and evaluate and develop security and safety management as part of risk management process
- create operational security and safety models for crises, disturbances and exceptional circumstances
- analyse and develop security and safety culture as part of organizational culture

Location and time

The study unit will start on January 7, 2019 at 9 am in Optima with e-learning orientation. The student will also choose which assignments he / she will carry out. The study unit ends on June 2, 2019.

Materials

Literature has been given for each module in the Optima workspace and the student will alsolook for the appropriate literature for the assignments. Examples of Literature:

Teaching methods

The study unit is mainly implemented as e-learning in the Optima workspace. There are four classroom teaching sessions at the Laurea Leppävaara campus as follows:
* 17.01.2019 between 12.30 (noon) and 3.00 pm.
* 14.02.2019 between 12.30 (noon) and 3.00 pm.
* 14.03.2019 between 12.30 (noon) and 3.00 pm.
* 04.04.2019 between 12.30 (noon) and 3.00 pm.
Attending classroom teaching sessions is not mandatory, but recomended.
The study unit begins with the orientation module and continues through the five safety& seucity management modules. Modules include assignments which will be made either individually or in pairs. The study unit also includes a web exam made individually. The student will decide which assignments he / she will carry out. The student will collect points from the assignments and exam based on which the grade is determined.

Assignments of the modules can be made, if desired, in a genuine work environment.

Exam schedules

Orientation module will start as e-learning on January 7, 2019 at 9 am. The choice of assignments latest on January 15, 2019 at 11.55 pm.
There are four classroom teaching sessions: 17.01.2019, 14.02.2019, 14.03.2019 and 04.04.2019 between 12.30 and 3.00 pm.
Deadline for the reports:
Module 1 assignment report latest on February 10, 2019 at 11.55 pm.
Module 2 assignment report latest on March 10, 2019 at 11.55 pm.
Module 3 assignment report latest on April 7, 2019 at 11.55 pm.
Module 4 assignment report latest on May 5, 2019 at 11.55 pm.
Module 5 assignment report latest on June 2, 2019 at 11.55 pm.
Web exams on May 16, 2019, in May 23,2019 and May 31, 2019 between 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm.

Study unit is suitable for exchange students.

Student workload

The study unit is consisted of 270 hours (= 10 cr) of work according to the published schedule.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The approved completion of the study uni requires that you have received at least 50 points for the study unit (maximum score is 100) and that the chosen assignments have been completed successfully.
In each assignment, the the evaluation criteria have been given in Optima.

Qualifications

Before enrolling to this study unit, you should have adequate competence level of safety, security and risk management, which you can acquire for example by completing study unit: Business Continuity Planning 5 credits or Basics of Corporate Security and Risk Management 10 credits.
