Learning outcomes

The aim of the test is to ensure the physiotherapy student’s adequate professional language skills of Finnish in more demanding clinical practice. All the degree programme in physiotherapy students whose mother tongue or language of prior education is not Finnish, are required to take the test in Finnish competence.

Teaching methods

The test will be implemented on the campus. It consist of a written and an oral part.

Content scheduling

The test includes the written part and the oral part:
The written part of the test is reading comprehension. In this part, there will be a short text and you will need to show understanding of the main ideas and the most important details of the text. The topic of the texts is related to general physiotherapy situations.


The second part of the test is about oral interaction. You will show your competence in planning the treatment of a case patient. You will have15 minutes to get acquainted with the case and some preparatory guidelines before you discuss your care plan to the Finnish language assessor.

The Mid-studies test of Finnish is a milestone in your studies: when you proceed to more demanding working environments, your communication skills in Finnish will be an essential asset. In order to sustain client safety, it is crucial that you understand instructions and you are able to report you actions to the clients and your co-workers. Adequate skills of Finnish will also help you gain positive learning experience of your practice.
