Supporting Sensory Functions (5 cr)

Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- describe the impact of disorders or defects in sensory functions on the client’s functional ability and mobility
- apply their expertise in physiotherapy and improve the client’s functioning functional ability and mobility taking into account the disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems and the client’s resources
- evaluate the client’s functional capacity and changes to this as well as the effectiveness of physiotherapy

Teaching methods

In this course student will learn the basics of neurophysiology and physiotherapy of the most common neurological conditions. Study includes contact meetings, independent studying and working with own client under teachers supervision. The course includes workshops, where is 100% attendance.

The implementation of the course is supported by a learning environment built in Canvas. The course includes scheduled teaching or guidance both on campus and remotely. Remote teaching is not recorded/recorded (and the recording is available for later viewing). The course involves individual or group work. Students receive personalized feedback on assignments from the teacher and may also benefit from feedback from the workplace and peers.

Exam schedules

Orientation (mandatory) to the course is 19th August 2023 in Otaniemi campus. Students get the contact information of their clients.

Exam is on 21th October at 9-12 am. Seminar at 13-16pm

Completion alternatives

Laurean tutkintosäännön mukaisesti (2024) kaikilla opiskelijalla on oikeus osaamisensa näyttämiseen. Aloitteen hankitun osaamisen tunnistamisesta ja tunnustamisesta tekee opiskelija. Asia on alustavasti tuotava esiin opintojakson orientaation aikana. Osaamisen tunnistaa ja tunnustaa moduulista tai opintojaksosta vastaava opettaja tai muu korkeakouluyksikön johtajan nimeämä henkilö. Student workload

Studies includes attendance in lecturers and workshops in Otaniemi Campus as well as independent studying. Remember to book enough time for independent studying. Own clients are seen in contact meetings.
5 credit units means total of 135 hours of work for students.
