Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- define international preparedness and crisis management operators and their roles
- define fundamental international preparedness and crisis management compliance requirements and best practices
- define global threats and analyze their impact to society

Materials

Teachers will provide relevant materials. All required reading will be either distributed via Canvas, available freely on the internet. Materials created by teachers (copyright holders) and only to be used for the purposes of this study unit.

Teaching methods

Contact and virtual implementation, individual and team work. Before enrolling to this study unit, you should have adequate competence level of security management, which you can acquire for example by completing study unit: A9484 Basics of Corporate Security and Risk Management 10 credits.No hybrid-lessons are arranged, lectures are not recorded.

Exam schedules

Contact sessions are directly visible in Pakki and not repeated here.
According to the degree regulations (section 18): students must be present in the first contact session (which is 20.02.2024 16.00 - 18.00) or notify their teacher in charge beforehand if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrollment will be rejected. After the first contact day no new students are accepted on the course. The Orientation assignment is available in Canvas from . By completing the orientation assignment the student will also confirm his/hers enrollment on the course.

This study unit includes an international virtual exercise in Leppävaara, Student Barents Rescue. The exercise is held on 12.3. (09.15-17.00) (+ 11.3. a short introduction 15.30-17.00). Students who participate to the exercise will be registered on the first contact lesson. If the student cannot join to the exercise, it can be replaced by writing an essay. (not the same than International security analysis- assignment).

Content scheduling

After completing the course the student is able to:
- analyze the international security environment, the phenomenon, trends and forces affecting international business,
- understand the interdependence of Internal and External Security
- have an understanding of some the main actors in international security (task and roles)
- analyze international security through a current case

Further information

Tutoring:
Tutoring is available on beforehand set days and upon request. Personal discussion times should be pre-agreed with teacher.
Communication:
Communication will be handled via Canvas workspace message boards. Private messages to teachers should be handled via email.
Zoom- application will be used for tutoring and general information sharing. The lecturers will in advance create a Teams- group for this study unit and invite the students to join.
Canvas is used for formal information, material sharing and storeing, returning assignments, etc.
If necessary, other means of communication will be agreed by the learning community commonly in the beginning of the study unit.
Changes to preliminary program are possible, but the students will be notified if neccessary.
