Learning outcomes

The goal is to develop competence in two areas:

1. Interacting with people and sense of community

Student is able to
- work with people from diverse backgrounds and take all students equally into account in their activities
- actively support new students in getting to know one another and forming a group
- organise social events with other students
- guide and support incoming exchange students according to their needs
- create a sense of community and promote interaction in the online community

2. Guiding students

Student is able to
- present Laurea and introduce new students to Laurea’s operating methods and culture
- use Laurea’s systems and provide support for their use
- cooperate with other tutors, Laureamko student union representatives and Laurea’s staff
- work safely and in accordance with the professional code of conduct
- present the well-being services provided to students and cooperate with well-being experts

Materials from training sessions

Teaching methods

Training sessions are held on Campus by teacher. Tutor training is arraged in co-operation with Laureamko. Laureamko arranges tutor camp (over night), international tutor training session and meetings for responcible tutors. Tutors will also take part in entrance exams days and other events during training semester. In order to be a tutor it is critical that you are present on orientation days in August.

Training sessions are held together with the Finnish tutor group and we speak English or Finnish according to the tutors in training.

Exam schedules

Meetings in spring, helping in entrance exams, planning tutoring with teacher tutors and orientation days in August.
Tutoring can not be completed without taking part in tutoring on orientation days.

International connections

Incoming exchange students and degree students from other countries.

Student workload

In Spring meetings every few weeks. Tutoring is most intensive during orientation days and after those days, but tutoring continues the whole fall semester.
