Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- identify values and ethical principles in the social care sector
- recognize the basic characteristics connected to lifespan development
- outline client relationships in the social care sector and different life situations

Teaching methods

The course includes workshops, group work and a small project work.

The aspects of LbD-method, research and development methods and counselling and communication practices will all be integrated.

Location and time

A more detailed schedule for the course is available in Pakki and Optima. Contact lessons at the Tikkurila Campus. Project implementations will be at the various partner organizations.

Learning materials and recommended literature

Supportive study material will be given out in the beginning of the course.

Alternative completion methods of implementation

Students are entitled for accreditation of this course by demonstrating their competence in basic premises within the field of social care practice.

The assessment is carried out according to the same criteria and grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit. For further information visit Link.

Co-operation with working life and/or RDI

There is an LbD-project implementation which will include entrepreneurial skills in cooperation with health care providers in the area.

Students workload

Allocated Study time for the 5 cr course:

Contact lessons: 30 hours
LbD-project: 50 hours
Report: 30 hours
Reading literature: 25 hours

Content and scheduling

LbD-project will be implemented as part of the course.

Further information for students

The course requires personal attendance in contact lessons. Students are expected to attend 70% of the contact lessons.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE & KNOWLEDGE BASIS, INFORMATION SEARCHING AND REPORTING

To achieve grade 5 student must be able to
- take responsibility for interaction with clients and co-operation partners and for responding to their needs
- anticipate his/her need for guidance
- compare and choose relevant information
- report and communicate in a professional manner

To achieve grade 3 student must be able to
- engage in professional interaction with customers and/or co-operation partners and identify their needs
- take part in guidance and utilise it
- gather information and use his/her knowledge basis
- report in the agreed manner

To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- interact with customers and/or co-operation partners
- receive guidance
- search for information in different sources
- report

TEAMWORK SKILLS, LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY
To achieve grade 5 student must be able to
- promote the team’s work and team spirit
- manage his/her time appropriately, completing the agreed tasks at the required quality level
- work responsibly, applying the skills and methods learned
- plan and evaluate their work, taking safety and/or ethical aspects into consideration

To achieve grade 3 student must be able to
- engage in goal-oriented work in a team

Students who have failed assignments required for passing a study unit must supplement or retake their study attainment in a manner and schedule defined by the teacher of the study unit.
