Teaching methods
The course consists of 8 chapters. Each chapter contains a quiz. These quizzes have to be completed successfully to obtain a grade one. To achieve grade two, university students need to be active on the discussion forums and to achieve a grade three students need to create ten multiple choice questions. To achieve grade four or five students will also need to return an essay. The essay can be written in English or Finnish.
The course will be implemented on the canvas platform used by Laurea. The course content (without assignments), is also already available on the website villesaarikoski.com
To gain access to the online platform canvas.laurea.fi students arrving from e.g. campusonline.fi need to activate their new laurea account (create a password for your studentnumber@laurea.fi)
Location and time
The student can conduct the course at his own pace. In the beginning arrival on the platform will be monitored and students will be reminded to register on to the platform. Please visit the platform at the beginning. Please also design a timetable for yourself. No late submissions will be accepted
This course will start on c 15.1 in January an end May 15. The exact dates and related details will be informed on the platform.
The course is a hop on hop off MOOC. Laurea students can contact the teacher to gain access during the semester. Campusonline students have to register through campusonline and we will try and keep the registration open as far as possible. Two months is a suitable time to complete the course, hence mid march perhaps latest time to board.
A student who is new to Laurea will receive a laurea account. This includes a studentnumber@laurea.fi for which the student generates a password. The account contains also a laurea email address. Visiting students will receive instructions how to board the canvas platform.
Learning materials and recommended literature
The course material is available at villesaarikoski.com "Internet Economy" course. References to relating literature can be found on the site.
The implementation on the canvas.laurea.fi will contain assignments and quizzes, which are not available on the open internet site
Forms of internationality
The course instructor is seeking for opportunities to teach the course in a classroom setting in campuses around the world.
The course has been taught in a classroom setting for example in New Delhi India at IILM in November 2017 (https://www.iilm.edu/) at the WSG University of Economy in Poland in 2012-2015 (http://www.cwz.wsg.byd.pl/en/homepage.1.html). The course was planned to be taught in Chile in the Spring of 2020, but corona cancelled the trip.
In 2020 the course will be taught and available in co-operation with campusonline.fi to students in all the universities of applied sciences in Finland. The course will also be promoted at different international venues and interested parties are encouraged to enroll and familiarize themselves with the content.
Students workload
The course has been designed to be time and place independent.
Within the start and end times, the student can choose when to start and when to finish and when to study. Please make a plan to ensure that you allocate enough time for your studies.
Content and scheduling
I have uploaded the content of the course on to my web page villesaarikoski.com. Note that the actual course will be conducted on the online learning platform canvas and will contain additional elements (quizzes, places to return your assignments etc)
