Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- identify and describe the reasons for challenging and violent behavior and implement appropriate practices to avoid or mitigate crisis situations
- recognize and assess the risk of violence and make appropriate decisions to manage these risks
- use suitable and acceptable physical interventions to reduce or manage risk behavior, and escape or rescue another person if necessary using emergency response
- act as a team and, if necessary, as a situation leader in scenarios where an individual’s risk behavior requires staff to operate as a team of 3-5 people to manage the associated risks or risk behavior
- apply safe practices in situations where extreme risk behavior necessitates moving to the floor and, if necessary, using emergency holds at floor level
- identify and articulate the impacts of crisis situations and describe post-crisis procedures that can be utilized in post-crisis support and learning

Qualifications

Suitable for students from different fields. Participation requires although that you have completed the MAPA Foundation Training Programme.

Please consider accessibility-related limitations when making your study selections: the training includes practicing physical skills such as transitions from a standing position to a kneeling position and then to the floor and back to a standing position, as well as practicing physical restraint techniques at floor level.
