Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- explain the importance of ergonomics in enhancing work fluency and safety, as well as preventing musculoskeletal disorders
- identify and explain the physical strain factors in client assistance and the client’s own resources
- assess and reduce risks in assisting client in their own and the community’s operations
- observe natural movement patterns and recognize the significance of motor learning in assisting the client
- use ethical decision-making in client assistance situations
- select and use safe and rehabilitative assistance methods and tools suitable for the client and the situation
- guide client movement considering muscle tone
- interact in a multidisciplinary environment to achieve an empowering and safe assistance situation for the client and the assistants
Further information
Suitable for social and health care students. The study unit includes 3 ECTS of Patient Transfer Ergonomics Card® basic training. Upon completion of the study unit, the student receives the Patient Transfer Ergonomics Card® from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, which aims to increase work and patient safety.
