Teaching methods

This study unit is a blended learning implementation.

You shall be present in the first classroom teaching session of the study unit or you must notify the teacher (soili.martikainen@laurea.fi) of your absence to confirm you intent to participate in studies.

A Canvas learning environment is used to support the implementation. The study unit includes scheduled teaching on campus which is not recorded nor streamed. Moreover, the study unit includes working in a group as well as independent study. Guidance is available online and during the teaching sessions in campus. In the study unit there are assessed tests completed individually, as well as assessed assignments completed as a group work. You will receive feedback for assignments from the teacher, and peer feedback is also used.

Location and time

The study unit will begin with contact teaching session on January 17, 2025, from 15:15 to 17:45.
Please see the Timetable Engine at https://lukkarit.laurea.fi/ for the schedule information. Laurea reserves the right to modify the timetable.
The detailed schedule of the study unit is available in Canvas workspace which will be opened on January 13, 2025; before the first classroom teaching takes place. The assignment deadlines are provided in the Canvas timetable.

Learning materials and recommended literature

Literature has been given for each module in the Canvas workspace and the student may also look for the appropriate literature by himself/herself for the assignments.

The following books are part of the knowledge base for the study unit:
Kim, W. C., & Mauborgne, R. (2005). Blue ocean strategy: How to create uncontested market space and make the competition irrelevant. Harvard Business School Press.
Porter, M.E., 1998. Competitive strategy: Techniques for analyzing industries and competitors, with a new introduction. New York: Free Press. (Originally published 1980).

Alternative completion methods of implementation

If you have completed comparable studies earlier in another higher education institution, be in touch with your head of student affairs.

Demonstration of competence: All students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The assessment is carried out according to the same assessment criteria and, as a rule, same grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit or module. The student is entitled to apply for accreditation of prior competence regardless of where, how, and when the competence has been acquired. The student may also seek accreditation of competence to be acquired on the job as part of their degree (work-based learning). The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence and for providing sufficient information. Recognition and accreditation of prior competence is done before the beginning of the study unit. Student fills in the competence analysis and enroll to the demonstration according to the instructions and schedules given in Canvas. If your competence is partly in line with the study unit's learning outcomes, discuss the matter directly with the teacher in charge of the study unit. Contact the teacher well before the beginning of the study unit. The teacher in charge of the study unit will assess your competence and guide you further on the matter. For more information see the BBA demonstration of competence Canvas workspace Student intranet > Planning studies > Demonstration of competence in Bachelor of Business Administration programmes.
