Teaching methods
Familiarize yourself with the Canvas Practice placement workspace folder and the instructions for Module V practice including a criminal record, an infectious disease report (required by HUS), and instructions for the practice path. Instructions and other information can be found in the planning your placement and during your placement folders.
The practice placement is 15 cr (405 - 8 hours for intensive placement assignment = 397hours) hours or about 10 weeks. The placement can be done entirely in one place or, if you wish, can be divided into two parts if the nursing environments complement each other. Placements that promote the professional skills of Module V require approved completion of placements in previous core competency modules. You can choose placements / places according to what best supports your professional development. With the help of your tutor, you can see what skills you should have in accordance with EU directives by the time you graduate, including practice placement that promote professional skills.
During the training, make sure that the hours are filled and take into account the length of the your placement especially for instance during public holidays.
Location and time
The student can complete the placement according to their own schedule, taking school days into account. Theory teaching is in the beginning of the semester. If necessary, discuss the contents and lengths of the placement with the supervising teachers.
Learning materials and recommended literature
Familiarize yourself with the specialty of the placement environment before starting the placement, the possible wishes of the unit on reviewing theoretical knowledge.

The student is able to:
- plan, carry out and assess the nursing of seriously ill patients
- analyse client care, services and the work community’s operating methods in terms of the effectiveness of care, safety, the quality of operations and cost-effectiveness
- continuously develop their own competence and actively use it to the benefit of their work community
- lead their own activities and make proposals for developing their team’s activities
- communicate in a way that promotes goal-oriented work, the community’s well-being and team spirit
- analyse unexpected and taxing situations at work and find solutions to them
