Part 1.Clinical practice in homecare and familycare environments 11 ects and maternity care practice 1 ects.
Part 2. LbD-project: Group counselling and promotion of Welfare and Health of Vulnerable Clients Trough the Life Span. 3 ects.

Location and time

Part 1.Clinical practice in homecare and familycare environments and maternity care environments starting from week 42. Note that there will be 1-3 project days during clinical practice period.

Part 2. LbD-project: Group counselling and promotion of Welfare and Health of Vulnerable Clients Trough the Life Span. Study project will be executed at Lohja campus and working life environments. There will be also 1 workshop/student which schedule will be agreed upon the start of project. Project kick-off, workshops and seminar are compulsory.

- Seminar: presenting project outcomes

Co-operation with working life and/or RDI

LbD-project: Group counselling and promotion of Welfare and Health of Vulnerable Clients Trough the Life Span.
Notice! Integrated in study unit R0196.
Tasks: Students will organize service councelling and health promotion workshops for vulnerable client groups (eg immigrants, adolescents with learning disabilities)
Working life partners (will be clarified at the beginning of project): City of Lohja, Kanneljärven opisto, Hiiden omaishoitajat, Outamon lastenkoti, Uudenmaan seniorisäätiö.

Orientation of study unit, start of the project and project workshops are compulsory.
Please notice that attendance in orientation is compulsory and comfirms student´s participation in the study unit!!
The schedule of study unit is in Pakki, changes may occur.
No possibility to participate online.

Forms of internationality

Study unit is in English and is open also for international exchange students and degreestudents.

Students workload

Part 1. Clinical practice 12 ects. One full week in clinical practice = 38 working hrs (including paperwork).
Part 2. LbD-project 3 ects. Schedule (orientation, workshops, seminar) is in Pakki. In addition to those already in Pakki there will be 1-2 project days/ student, the full schedule will be agreed with working life partners at the beginning of project.

Further information for students

Regarding the EU-directives compulsory clinical learning environments in this practice are maternity care, homecare/homehospital and pediatric care. Other suitable practice environments are eg: nurses appointment, outpatient clinics etc. For more advice please contact module coordinator.
If you practice in units where patients/clients are minors, you must state a criminal record before starting the clinical practice.

In this study unit the assessing of the competences will be done by using the criteria set for requirement level II.

To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- use professional concepts in a consistent manner and demonstrate his/her familiarity with the knowledge basis
- report and communicate in a professional manner

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND WORKPLACE DEVELOPMENT


To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- act independently taking into account the operating environment
- take responsibility for interaction with customers and/or co-operation partners and for responding to their needs

TEAMWORK SKILLS, LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY


To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- describe the significance of his/her actions for successful co-operation
- describe his/her competence in relation to the learning outcomes

Students who have failed assignments or examinations required for passing a study unit must supplement or retake their study attainment in a manner and schedule defined by the teacher of the study unit. ... A failed examination or other study attainment can be retaken twice. A failure to attend an actual examination is considered to be one completion attempt.” (Laurea degree regulations.)

Part 1. VULNERABLE GROUPS AND SERVICE INTEGRATION 3 cr

The course includes two Nursing skills theory tests (YleSH) (1. The most common developmental disabilities and disabled patients and 2. Hearing and visual disability). Details related to YleSH- tests are discussed in more detail in the orientation lesson.
Schedules may change, the final schedule will be confirmed at the beginning of the course.

Part 2. DIRECTIVE OF MATERNITY CARE 1 cr

Directive of maternity care 1 cr can be completed in a clinical practice environment.

Content and scheduling

Part 1. VULNERABLE GROUPS AND SERVICE INTEGRATION

- Identifying factors and situations in life that increase vulnerability (e.g. unemployment, poverty, disability, high need for healthcare services, immigration, and cultural background factors)
- Immigrant service needs and specific health promotion issues
- Service guidance, service needs assessment, and service plan as a working method in nursing
- Peer support organizations
- Special features of interaction and guidance in meeting vulnerable clients
- Group guidance

Part 2: Directive of Maternity Care 1 cr

Part 3: Clinical practice 11cr (12cr)
Those who have already done Directives of Maternity care will be doing 9 weeks of practice. ie 12 credits.

1) 4 weeks of family nursing practice
2) 4 weeks of homecare practice

In this study unit the assessing of the competences will be done by using the criteria set for requirement level II.

To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- use professional concepts in a consistent manner and demonstrate his/her familiarity with the knowledge basis

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND WORKPLACE DEVELOPMENT


To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- act independently taking into account the operating environment
- take responsibility for interaction with customers and/or co-operation partners and for responding to their needs

TEAMWORK SKILLS, LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY


To achieve grade 1 (or pass) student must be able to
- describe the significance of his/her actions for successful co-operation
- describe his/her competence in relation to the learning outcomes

Students who have failed assignments or examinations required for passing a study unit must supplement or retake their study attainment in a manner and schedule defined by the teacher of the study unit. ... A failed examination or other study attainment can be retaken twice. A failure to attend an actual examination is considered to be one completion attempt.” (Laurea degree regulations.)
