Spoken fluency and range are sufficient to manage common professional situations. Writing shows satisfactory control of grammar and lexis for the production of standard professional messages.

Students demonstrate a good understanding of the principles of effective communication for professional purposes. They are able to achieve communication objectives in a range of work-related situations with a degree of success and can adapt their communication style to suit the requirements of audience and context. They are able to communicate clearly, concisely, and appropriately in a wide range of work-related situations and are effective in adapting both the style and content of a message to different audiences and in different contexts. Speech is very fluent, flexible, and easy to understand, with a high degree of grammatical control and propositional precision. Writing shows excellent control of grammar, lexis, and style in producing a variety of text types and genres.

• As this is a communications course, compulsory attendance during the whole course is expected
• Evaluation includes both a written and oral demonstration of skills which are graded 0-5
• Both of the above skills demonstrations need to be accepted to pass the course
• The evaluation criteria for the course are available in Optima based on a combination of the Common European Framework for Languages and working life competences.
• Many workplaces require English skills of at least a B2.1 level according to the Common European Framework for languages, which is equivalent to a grade 3 according to the evaluation system in this course.
• Various assignments will also be given during the course which also need to be completed to pass the course.
• The final grade from the course will be given based on the aforementioned criteria as a grade between 0-5.
• The final grade which will be seen on the student's certificate is made up of 50% from the oral evaluation and 50% from the written evaluation.

International Social Service Provider of the Year Game: 3 Credits

Further information for students
As mentioned above this course is based on a virtual game called International Social Service Provider of the Year in the game platform Seppo. All details of the game will be provided in Canvas. There will be assignments in the game which will be played in teams. To play in the game you will require a mobile device: phone, pad or laptop to participate.
Also constructive communication will be taught as a professional and personal communication method to facilitate self-development and workplace communication through videos and Zoom sessions. The learning diary assignment is connected to this process - the student is expected to reflect on the processes experienced during the course.

Evaluation methods and criteria
•Evaluation includes both a written and oral demonstration of skills, which are graded 0-5 (presentation and exam).
Evaluation is directly linked to the Common European Framework for Languages (assessment criteria framework is available in Canvas)
•All compulsory assignments need to be accepted to obtain a grade for the course.
•As this is a communications course, compulsory attendance in the Zoom sessions is expected (75%)
•Your final grade from the course will be given based on the aforementioned evaluation criteria as a grade between 0-5.
