Teaching methods
A Canvas learning environment is used to support the course implementation, but it is important to take part in teaching and guidance on campus according to schedule. It is mandatory to be present at the first lecture. If the student for a justified reason is absent for the first lesson, the student must inform the teacher in advance. If the student is absent from scheduled lessons, there will be compensatory assignments for the absence. If the student is absent more that 3 lessons, then the student and the teacher shall have a discussion on the students possibility to pass the course.
Self-direction is required during the course. The study unit assignments include working in pairs and groups. In Canvas learning environment the student can find learning material, pre-assignments and instructions to the course assignments. You will receive feedback for you pair and group assignments from the teacher and peer feedback may also be utilised. Study visits might be had during the course.
Student can communicate with course relater issues with the teacher during lessons, and by using Canvas discussion site. In personal matters the student can send an e-mail directly to the teacher.

Alternative completion methods of implementation
All students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognized and accredited by the teacher responsible for the studies or another person designated to the position. The assessment is carried out according to the same assessment criteria and, as a rule, same grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit or module.
Co-operation with working life and/or RDI
Study visit to social care workplace is done during the course.
Important dates
According to the degree regulations (section 18) “students must be present in the first contact session or notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrollment will be rejected. Another student in the queue may be enrolled in the study unit in the place of the absent student.” (Laurea degree regulations).
Mandatory attendance on first lecture on 7th of September.
Deadline for pair-assignment is 29th of October.

One credit equals approximately 26.7 hours of work performed by the student.
Content and scheduling
This course is in English, but some visit might be has in Finnis depending on the working life partner.
The course deals with themes such as human growth and development, ethics in social care, life course perspective, adverse childhood experiences, social care working surroundings.

Evaluation methods and criteria
“The evaluation of competence is based on the descriptions of objectives in the curricula, and the level of competence is assessed according to the evaluation criteria listed in the implementation plan for the studies.” (Laurea degree regulations).
Pair-assignment is graded from 0 to 5 and group assignment is graded pass-fail.
In this study unit the assessing of the competences will be done by using the criteria set for requirement level I.
