The structure of the National exam:

The national test consists of two parts. In the theory exam, the questions are statements, multiple choice, gap-fill or combination assignments, and case assignments. You can spend up to 3 hours doing both experiments. In a theory test, incorrect answers can lose points for multiple choice questions with more than one correct answer.

Theoretical exam contains 100 questions about the nurse's competence requirements:

1. Professionalism and ethics

2. Client-centred care

3. Communication and multi-professionalism

4. Health promotion

5. Leadership and professional co-operation skills of the employee

6. Information technology and documentation

7. Guidance and education competence and supporting self-care

8. Clinical nursing

9. Evidence-based practice, utilization of research knowledge and decision-making

10. Entrepreneurship and development

11. Quality management

12. Service system of health care and social welfare services

13. Patient and client safety

The second part of the national exam consists of different drug calculation assignments: dosage calculations, infusion calculations, mixture and solution calculations and gas calculations.

Further information for students

The national exam (180 ECTS) includes studies for bachelors of nursing, public health nurse, midwifery and paramedic as well as deaconess degree students.

The purpose of the national examination of core competence in nursing (180 ECTS) is to ensure that all graduating nurses have the competence of a nurse responsible for general nursing (180 ECTS) in accordance with the EU directive.
The student participates in the exam after completing approximately 180 ECTS credits. The exam is part of the approved completion of the course and therefore the exam must be completed before graduation.
The degree certificate includes a national final exam performance clause for the student.

Instructions related to the national exam before the test:

You will need your own computer and a computer power cord with you for the test. You can borrow a computer from the school on time by contacting the lobby hosts.
In addition, you will need a pen, eraser, sharpener and photo ID.
Eating snacks is prohibited during the test. You will get a concept for calculating medical bills from the teacher. When calculating invoices, you can use a calculator.

Retakes are carried out on the general retake days of the campuses and enrollment is done from Intra.

At the end of the exams, there are few questions about your background information. You will also be asked for feedback on the exam and exam arrangements. Background information, time spent on the exams, exam success and feedback on the exam and exam arrangements will be collected nationwide. Information will be collected anonymously. The results compiled from the data are reported in such a way that individual respondent cannot be identified. Based on the feedback and results, exams and exam arrangements can be further developed.
