This study unit contains the theoretical studies for perioperative and surgical nursing.
Student MUST be present in the orientation of this study unit.
Workshop groups and important dates will be announced in orientation.
This course includes theory lessons and workshops. It is mandatory to participate in all workshops. In the end of the course there will be YleSh demonstration of nursing skills test for every student. Student must participate to all workshops in order to take the demonstration of nursing skills -test.

Exchange students (nursing) are welcome to this study unit. Previous studies of perioperative nursing are not required.
Please notice that the yleSH demonstration of nursing skills -test includes study material from Perioperative nursing and Basics of acute care nursing -courses. Therefore it's recommended that students enroll into both courses during a same semester.
Students need to wear nursing uniform in the workshops and in the yleSH demonstration of skills -test. Laurea UAS doesn't provide nursing uniforms.

Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- describe the most common diseases and injuries and their investigations and treatment methods in the field of surgery
- describe the different areas of anaesthesiology and the different forms of anaesthesia
- describe and justify the most common examinations and treatment and monitoring methods of in perioperative nursing
- use evidence-based information and research to justify decisions made in perioperative nursing
- apply the main principles of self-care guidance in perioperative nursing and describe its main contents
- describe the main principles of how patient care technology and monitoring, examination and care methods can be used safely and effectively as part of perioperative nursing
- describe how to prevent hazardous incidents at all stages of the perioperative treatment process
- describe the care and service paths of a surgical patient, taking into consideration digital solutions and the significance of working in multiprofessional teams and networks
Teaching methods
This study unit contains the theoretical studies for perioperative and surgical nursing.
Student MUST be present in the orientation of this study unit.
Workshop groups and important dates will be announced in orientation.
This course includes theory lessons and workshops. It is mandatory to participate in all workshops. In the end of the course there will be YleSh demonstration of nursing skills test for every student. Student must participate to all workshops in order to take the demonstration of nursing skills -test.
Study material will be available on Canvas platform.

Exchange students (nursing) are welcome to this study unit.
Please notice that the yleSH demonstration of nursing skills -test includes study material from Perioperative nursing and Basics of acute care nursing -courses. Therefore it's recommended that students enroll into both courses during a same semester.
Students need to wear nursing uniform in the workshops and in the yleSH demonstration of skills -test. Laurea UAS doesn't provide nursing uniforms.

Surgery and anesthesiology online course 2 cr = 54 hours
