Tavoitteet

Opiskelija osaa
- suunnitella häiriötilanteiden hallinnassa tarvittavan organisaation ja vastuut
- kehittää organisaation osaamista häiriötilanteisiin varautumisessa
- johtaa toimintaa häiriötilanteissa
- suunnitella ja toteuttaa kriisiviestintää
- toteuttaa häiriötilanteiden jälkihoitoon liittyviä toimenpiteitä

The teaching material used for the study unit can be found in Canvas. There is no recording of contact teaching, but lectures in the zoom will be recorded.

Toteutustapa

Tämä toteutus on tarkoitettu englanniksi opiskeleville, ml. vaihto-opiskelijat.

Toteutuksen tärkeät päivämäärät

According to the Laurea degree rule, the student must be present at the first contact session (17.1.2025 at 12.30) or notify the responsible teacher to confirm his or her attendance to the study unit. If the student is not able to taking part in the first contact session for a good reason, he or she must be in advance in contact with the responsible teacher in order to maintain the place in study unit.

The start of the study unit is 17.1.2025. The lecture part deals with the theory related to disruption management and presents the source material related to the knowledge base. In addition, instructions for a personal learning assignment will be also given. The time limit for the personal learning assignment is 18.5.2025 and the assignment will be evaluated by Fail, 1-5.

The online sessions will be held in Zoom and exact timings will be announced in Canvas. Online sessions will be recorded. The lectures deals with the planning of disruption management, cross -border rescue operations, and some preparations for the Barents Rescue exercise.

The Barents Rescue Exercise will be conducted from 10.-11.3.2025 between 08am to 5pm on Leppävaara campus. Participation in the exercise is evaluated by Pass/Fail. If the student can not participate in the exercise, a replacement task must be performed, which will be evaluated accordingly the Pass/Fail.

In contact session 20.3.2025, the topics are recovery and crisis communication. In addition, the group assignment (crisis communication plan) will be instructed and the assignment will be evaluated Pass/Fail. The time limit for the group assignment is 4.5.2025.

In contact session 14.5.2025, the use of a crisis communication plan produced as a group assignment will be practiced in the workshop as different exercises. Participation in the workshop is evaluated by Pass/Fail. If the student can not participate, a replacement task must be performed, which will be assessed accordingly the Pass/Fail.

Kansainvälisyys toteutuksella

International standards and publications will be used as a study material. The students will be participating the international Barents Rescue Exercise for two days in Leppävaara Campus.

Recognition of prior studies:
If you have completed comparable studies earlier in another higher education institution, be in touch with your head of student affairs.

Demonstration of competence:
According to the degree regulations “all students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

On average, one credits corresponds to about 27 hours of student work; 5 ECTS = 135 hours. The workload distribution is estimated to be as follows:

- Contact teaching: 27h
- Online teaching: 3h
- Preparatory and complementary e-learning and independent study: 25h
- Personal Learning Assignment: 50h
- Group assignment 30h.

After completing the study unit the student is able to:
- plan the organisation and responsibilities necessary for managing disruptions
- develop and organizations competence in preparedness for disruptions
- manage operations in the event of a disruption
- plan and implement crisis communications
- implement operations needed for the aftercare of disruptions.
