Learning outcomes
The students will be able to
analyse the basis of decision-making in a multidisciplinary team in clinical nursing
describe nurses’ responsibilities and obligations in assessing the need for and urgency of care
make decisions by using methods of clinical examination of the patient, care need assessment, digital decision aids and consultation
recognise changes that threat vital functions and plan, implement and evaluate clinical nursing procedures that support vital functions
explain the main illnesses and injuries in the field of surgery and the medical grounds for care
describe the different fields of anaesthesiology and the different anaesthesia forms
plan, carry out and evaluate perioperative nursing
justify the practices and medicines used advanced life support
plan, implement and evaluate administration of intravenous medication, infusions and nutrition
Teaching methods
Participation to contact lessons and lectures as well as compulsory workshops (Workshops under the code V1611)..

1. Acute Care Nursing theory
1a Acute care nursing theory 2cr (teacher Lotta Tiikkainen)
1b Medication care and calculations 2 cr (teacher Sari Juvonen)
2. Perioperative and surgical nursing 2.5 op (teacher Marja Tanskanen)
3. Infusion therapy & transfusions 1 op (teacher Mika Alastalo)
4. Advanced Life Support (on-line) 0,5 cr if needed (Riikka M.+ Lotta)
5. Surgery and anesthesiology (on-line) 2 cr if needed

Evaluation methods and criteria
V1609 Decision-Making in Acute Nursing Care 10 credits study course has the following parts:
1. Acute Care Nursing theory
1a Acute care nursing theory 2cr - Exam 0- 5, if failed, the student must retake the exam.
1b Medication care and calculations 2 cr - Mediation calculations exam - must get 100% correct to PASS.
2. Perioperative and surgical nursing 2.5 op - exam and article review graded fail/1-5.
3. Infusion therapy & transfusions 1 op - Exam - 0-5, if failed, the student must retake the exam
4. Advanced Life Support (on-line) 0,5 cr - Pass / Fail
5. Surgery and anesthesiology (on-line) 2 cr - Pass / Fail
