Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- define environmental risk management compliance requirements, best practices and apply those
- define environmental threats and analyse their impact to organisations’ operations
- assess and manage environmental risks
- create environmental risk management procedures and guidelines

Teaching methods

This course is a fully automated MOOC implementation consisting of six modules, including orientation. The learning platform is Canvas. The objective of this course is that the student is able to:
- define and apply environmental risk management requirements and best practices;
- identify environmental threats and their impact on the activities of organisations;
- assess and manage environmental risks - create operating models and guidelines for environmental risk management;

Each module has tasks and a short exam, which you can successfully complete to move on to the next module. At the end of the course, there is still a final assignment that will put all the topics into line.

Alternative completion methods of implementation

According to the degree regulations “all students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognised and accredited by the teacher responsible for the module or study unit or another person designated by the director of the UAS unit. Content and scheduling

The course consists of orientation and five modules as follows:
1. Key regulation
2. Environmental management and risk management
3. Sustainable development
4. Chemical safety and emission control
5. Final task

Further information for students

The implementation is a pilot and is aimed at students in safety and risk management training. After feedback on the implementation, the necessary changes will be made and published a wider range of students. A feedback link can be found on the e-form in the last module.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The assessment of competence is focused on the target descriptions of the curricula, and the level of competence is assessed on the basis of the assessment criteria announced in the study implementation plan (Laurea Degree Rule). The grade of the course is based on module-specific exams. The course also includes other assignments that do not affect the grade, but they must be completed in order to proceed with the course. Each intermediate exam is assessed in accordance with the assessment table below, i.e. in order to pass the exam, at least 40 % of the answers must be correctly received. In the overall value, intermediates are taken into account with equal weightings.

4 < 90% - 75%
3 < 75% - 60%
2 < 60% - 50%
1 < 50% - 40%
0 < 40% - 0%

In this study unit the assessing of the competences will be done by using the criteria set for requirement level II.

To achieve grade 5 student must be able to
- analyse the acquired information, draw conclusions and combine theoretical knowledge with experiential knowledge

- use professional concepts in a consistent manner and demonstrate his/her familiarity with the knowledge basis

Qualifications

Before enrolling to this study unit, you should have adequate competence of safety, security and risk management, which you can acquire for example by completing study unit HT00BN79 Basics of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (10 cr) or TO00BS57 Basic Theory of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (5 cr) at Open University of Applied Sciences
