Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- define criminology and crime prevention principles and apply those
- define crime prevention operators and their roles
- assess and manage organisations’ crime risks
- create organisation’s situational awareness of crime risks
- create crime prevention plan and procedures

Teaching methods

This study unit is a melange of academic lectures and practitioners point-of-views together with a assignments on crime prevention, not forgetting an online exam in which learnings of selected literature (and notes from the lectures) will be assessed.

The studies contains classroom teaching, online teaching, as well as independent work.

The stress is on theories of criminology and how to apply them in real world crime prevention.

According to the degree regulations “all students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognised and accredited by the teacher responsible for the module or study unit or another person designated by the director of the UAS unit.

OTHER IMPORTANT DAYS:

The assignment must be returned by 8th of December 2023 at 23.59!

Online Exam on 11th of December from 9:00 to 23:59 AND on 15th of December, from 9:00 to 23:59;
Retake on 18th of December, from 9:00 to 23:59.
The online exams are arranged so that you have 60 minutes to complete the exam within the time window (10:00 - 23:59). However, you must start taking the online exam before 22:29 to be able to utilise the whole time allocated for the exam.

Online exam (30 % of the total points of the study unit)
Assignment (70 % of the total points of the study unit)

Approved completion of the study unit requires that you will receive minimum 40 points in total, however, both the assignment must be returned and the online exam has to be done.

Returning your assignment late will lower your grade.

Before enrolling to this study unit, you should have adequate competence of safety, security and risk management, which you can acquire for example by completing study unit HT00BN79 Basics of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (10 cr) or TO00BS57 Basic Theory of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (5 cr) at Open University of Applied Sciences.
