Learning outcomes

Practice in Public Health Nursing 1. during Pregnancy, Infancy and Under School Age
The student is able to
- describe the purposes, objectives and contents of maternity and child health clinic inspections
- apply the health examination programme in practice
- carry out screening studies
- use a reflective work approach during the appointment work and utilise the necessary evidence-based methods to assess the health of the expectant mother and children and to record data appropriately
- support interaction between the child and the parent
- recognise, guide and support families individually in self-care, health-promoting choices and health maintenance
- assess maternal and fetal health and recognise health problems and risk factors related to pregnancy and childbirth and guide the patient to treatment in a timely manner
- support parenthood and recognise parents' resources
- recognise the need for support for children and families and, if necessary, refer them to the appropriate help in a timely manner
- actively participate in other forms of child health clinic work, such as home visits and online and group guidance, in addition to the standard appointment work
- guide families in social security matters and describe issues related to confirming the paternity of a father
- take into account the possibilities, societal importance and multicultural perspectives of child health clinic activities
- describe the situations when social work support is needed for the family or the need for child welfare notification is assessed
- guide families in Swedish, English or assisted by an interpreter
- interact with clients in a respectful and ethical manner
- act as a member of the work community
- implement the vaccination programme of the child health clinic according to the family's individual needs
- assess their own competence and develop their own activities as a supporter of families
