Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- analyse the health risks and threats to the populations’ health on community and individual level
- apply recommendations and research information related to the prevention of chronic illnesses when planning and implementing guidance on healthy lifestyles for patients and their families
- plan and implement interventions to promote health and functional capacity for individuals and significant others in utilising multiprofessional cooperation and networks
- plan, implement and evaluate resource-based guidance and online guidance that supports individual self-management with varying pedagogical methods and with ethical justifications
- describe guidance and information related to the prevention and control of infectious diseases

Important dates

There is a mandatory attendance during lessons. Attendance during orientation is Mandatory (See degree regulation)

The student will have to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the subject matter by doing a reflective make up assignment that should be completed before the next lesson.

Content and scheduling

Core contents:

1) Key concepts in health promotion
2) Population health and factors influencing health behavior
3) Guiding the customer and supporting change in lifestyle
4) Common communicable diseases, prevention, control, monitoring and tracing of communicable diseases.

Further information for students

A student who has not completed the assignments or exams set for passing the course must complete or renew his or her performance in the manner and within the time specified by the teacher of the course. A failed exam or other performance can be renewed twice. Failure to participate in the actual exam is counted as one performance. (Laurea's degree regulations.)

All Laurea students are expected to adhere to good scientific practice, including appropriate citation of sources. Familiarize yourself with and ask about these practices if necessary. All study assignments are done as individual work, unless otherwise instructed in the assignment. The teacher will inform separately if Urkund will be used for the reports.
