Teaching methods

Change: We will have a new project together for fall instead of ViVa VR-project. We will work on ‘Service Design International Minisite for Export of Education Concept’!

Finland is re-known for its Education system globally and much appreciated of its innovative models. In this project our task is to support International sales of Laurea P2P/SBA project learning model.

SBA/P2P (Working life connected learning model) is an innovative and radically different Academic learning model.

There is lot of potential in International market for our model, but it lacks proper and intuitive online presentation. We will analyse, design and realise a mini website for the needs of International Sales.

Competences and skills: SERVICE DESIGN, MINISITE, EXPORT, INTERNATIONAL, MARKET ANALYSIS, VALUE PROPOSITION, CUSTOMER EXPECTATION, DIGITAL BRAND, DIGITAL CONTENT, SOCIAL SELLING, CO-CREATION, INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATING

1st we will analyse the International target group, understand the central selling points and bottlenecks in selling. Thereafter we will design the minisite, choose platform, build the content, test and finalise it.

We will benchmark, design and pilot modern ways of export of education, for example with microlearning videos.

We will learn how to accomplish a project with Service Design process and tools. We learn the latest and best practice Customer Oriented methods (e.g. benchmark, customer persona, customer journey, future skenarios, ideating, value proposition, consumer behavior...).

We will e.g.
- Analyse & understand what are the elements of the Education concept
- Which platform to use for building the minisite

Analyse the Global Client
- Analyse relevant cases globally
- Define key messages and Design the content based on analysis
- Test lightly with target audience
- Learn critical thinking

We will replace one Theory Basis with Service Design Course in Laurea Canvas Digital platform and write only one Theory Basis on this course.

We will also learn how to work in multi-cultural teams and increase our understanding of different cultural and communicational aspects (Asia, Europe, other?).

The enrolled students will develop their competencies related to the Design Challenge in question during this project implementation.
Guidance and working sessions can be viewed in Timetable Engine. Communication practices are agreed on a project-specific basis.

Laurea reserves the right to make changes.
Quality of implementation has been evaluated and self-evaluation report is available.

Location and time

- Kickoff (Pre-Brief) Wed 24.8. 17.-18.00.
- Weekly Guidance with teacher Wed 10.30-12.
The teacher will send an email invitation to the Kickoff (pre-brief) to all enrolled students!

Learning materials and recommended literature

- We will study the Basics of Service Design using the Laurea Canvas Digital Platform (3 points). It replaces the 1st Theory Basis in this course.
- The source materials needed for the subject area of the project are selected separately after the project assignment.

Alternative completion methods of implementation

All students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognised and accredited by the teacher responsible for the studies or another person designated to the position. The assessment is carried out according to the same assessment criteria and, as a rule, same grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit or module. The student is entitled to apply for accreditation of prior competence regardless of where, how and when the competence has been acquired. The student may also seek accreditation of competence to be acquired on the job as part of their degree (work-based learning). The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence and for providing sufficient information.

Co-operation with working life and/or RDI

The project is completed in cooperation with Laurea Hyvinkää and Laurea Innovation & Strategy Unit.

Important dates

Important dates!
- Kickoff (Pre-Brief) Wed 24.8. 17.-18.00.
- Weekly Guidance with teacher Wed 10.30-12.

According to the degree regulations (section 18) “students must be present in the first contact session or notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrollment will be rejected. Another student in the queue may be enrolled in the study unit in the place of the absent student.”

Forms of internationality

The study unit is suitable for exchange students.

Students workload

The student spends approximately 16 hours of weekly working time on the project; in other words, approximately 8 hrs for team work and approximately 8 hrs for independent work per week.

Content and scheduling

After completing this Service Design-project, the Student will be able to:
- Describe how value is created through service
- Recognize the essence of Service Design thinking and methods,
plan, implement and evaluate a service design project using Service design methods
- Apply creative problem-solving and develop working methods individually and in team
- Foster entrepreneurship through service design

In this project Learning by Doing is achieved using several methods simultaneously:
- Service Design-course in Laurea Digital learning platform during the 1st weeks of the Project
- Project work in given Design Challenge during the whole project
- One Theory Basis upon a project related topic
- Coaching by Teacher during the whole project

Further information for students

The study unit corresponds to the requirements of Bachelor's level education.

According to the degree regulations (section 18) "students must be present for the first contact teaching session, or they must notify the responsible teacher of their absence to confirm they intend to participate in studies, Alternatively, the teacher can specify a different manner for the student to confirm that they intend to participate in the studies. The completion of these measures can be required within a week of the studies having begun. The application of the aforementioned approach requires that the teacher notifies the students accepted to the study unit of the practice and that the practice is specifically mentioned in the study unit’s implementation plan.

If the student has a justified reason for not attending the first contact teaching session or for not notifying the teacher of their intention to be involved in studies in the manner required by the teacher, the student must contact the responsible teacher to agree on participation in the studies. Their registration for the study unit will be rejected, of the student does not notify the teacher of being absent from the first contact teaching session or the reason for their absence cannot be considered justified, Another student who is in line for the study unit can be selected in their place."

The quality of the study unit implementation has been assessed and the self-evaluation report is available.

Evaluation methods and criteria

According to the degree regulations (section 18) "students must be present for the first contact teaching session, or they must notify the responsible teacher of their absence to confirm they intend to participate in studies. Registration for the study unit will be rejected, if the student does not notify the teacher of being absent from the first contact teaching session or the reason for their absence cannot be considered justified." The first contact session in a project means the first meeting between the project team and the supervisor (pre-brief). [Add the timing of pre-brief here.]

It is compulsory to participate in the project kickoff meeting so that everyone participating in the project will receive the information on the project task.

Project guidance is offered on a weekly basis. The student can compare the available guidance sessions in Timetable Engine and select those projects/studies that do not overlap.

Evaluation arviointi
“The evaluation of competence is based on the descriptions of objectives in the curricula, and the level of competence is assessed according to the evaluation criteria listed in the implementation plan for the studies.” (Laurea degree regulations).
