Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- identify and deeply understand cross-cultural issues related to service development
- manage multicultural teams and projects
- support and develop frontline personnel's intercultural communication competences
- involve diverse customers in the service design processes

Teaching methods

The study unit is offered as an international joint co-operation with Laurea's partner universities in France, Germany and Portugal.

The orientation session will be held on 17.4. online.
Asynchronous pre-assignements need to be completed by 19.5.

A Leppävaara campus-based exchange week will take place during 29.5.-2.6.
Partner university students will travel to Finland. Participation during this week is compulsory.

Forms of internationality

The study unit is offered as an international joint co-operation with Laurea's partner universities in France (Université Gustave Eiffel), Germany (KISD) and Portugal (ISCTE).
Partner university students will travel to Finland for the exchange week 29.5.-2.6.2023

Students workload

3 ects BIP part (blended international project) +
2 ects online (Laurea students)

Laurea students will complete the additional asynchronous section of 2 ects in June in order get the full 5 ects's.

- Understanding culture's role in shaping human behavior
- Knowledge of different approaches towards culture
- Managing diversity and cultural differences during a service design process
- Development of intercultural sensitivity
- Applying cultural knowledge in practice in a chosen service design project
