Toteutustapa

The first steps in thesis preparation are the selection and analysis of the topic. Read more about the process in student intranet. The thesis preparation includes acting as an opponent to another student’s thesis, presenting one’s own work, evaluation discussion and completing the maturity test.

The maturity test, which is part of the thesis, is taken by the student in Finnish or Swedish, in accordance with the Decree on Universities of Applied Sciences. Students who have received their formal education outside of Finland or in a language other than Finnish or Swedish take the maturity test in the language of the degree program they are completing. (Laurea degree regulations 2024.)

Guidance is mainly provided via Zoom, but mutual meetings on campus are also included.

Työelämäyhteistyö ja/tai TKI

The thesis is expected to demonstrate a clear connection to workplace development. For example, the goal may be to develop a service, action models or a new work culture. The thesis may be part of the research and development activities of the University of Applied Sciences.

If you are graduating, please note the important dates concerning the submission of the thesis.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

A thesis completed at a higher education institution related to the same field of study or otherwise suitable for the field of study can be fully recognized in bachelor's degrees (substitution).

The suitability of the thesis is assessed by the thesis coordinator of your education.

If it can be verified from the transcript/certificate of records that the maturity test included in the thesis has been taken, it does not need to be taken again. Otherwise, a maturity test must be taken. Similarly, for degrees completed abroad, a maturity test must be taken.

If your previous thesis cannot be directly credited, you can nevertheless use your previous thesis in terms of content and/or methodology as a starting point or source for your new thesis. This opportunity applies to theses for both bachelor's degrees and master's degrees. In this case, the thesis completed at Laurea is normally evaluated as a new performance and a maturity test is taken.

Please see student intranet for more information.

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

One credit equals approximately 26.7 hours of work performed by the student.

Sisältö ja sen jaksotus

Working on a thesis is a learning process in which you build up your knowledge on a topic of your own choice and interest. A completed thesis is a proof that you can apply your knowledge and skills to a practical, expert task. A thesis at a university of applied sciences is typically a working life development project, for example, to develop a service, an operating model or a new working culture. It can also be part of an externally funded research and development activity of the UAS.

A thesis is a development or research project. In addition to the development report or research report, the thesis may be reported in the form of a diary (PONT) or a portfolio.

The scope of the thesis leading to a Bachelor's degree is 15 credits. The thesis is one of the other credits and you can do it when you have found a topic that interests you. You can easily complete a thesis in one semester - if you work full-time, the estimated time is less than 3 months.

You can work on your thesis alone, in pairs or, in some cases, in a group.
