Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- communicate as a professional in field specific tasks
- speak and write English with the understanding of the appropriate style and register
- identify personal developmental needs in communication and language skills and develop realistic strategies for improvement
- search for information from professional publications and databases

Teaching methods

This course is partly combined with the R0238-3014 Project Management and Communication course which is implemented through an interdisciplinary Learning by Development project (LbD) and contact lessons to support client interactions and professional development.

The competence areas are:
• Oral communication skills needed for the workplace: presentations; client interactions;
• Basics of Constructive communication (Nonviolent Communication) as a professional and personal communication method to facilitate, empathetic encounters with clients, self-empathy and self-development.
• Reflective written skills
• Report and academic writing skills
• Intercultural competences
• Group working skills

Alternative completion methods of implementation

Recognition of prior learning and workplace acquired competences should be discussed with the teacher and then applied for. Suitable compensatory tasks will be developed accordingly.

This course is partially implemented as low-threshold project implemented with local working life service providers

54 hours: Project integration with the R0238-3014 Project Management and Communication course

54 hours of this course are partly combined with the R0238-3014 Project Management and Communication course which is implemented through an interdisciplinary Learning by Development project (LbD) and contact lessons to support client interactions and professional development.

However, this does not affect the credits you see in your study transcripts: you will see Project Management and Communciation 5 Credits and English in Social Services 5 credits in your transcripts.
