Learning outcomes

-The student will improve skills in project writing, planning and implementation
-The student is able utilize different tools to raise awareness on chronic diseases among the population in general and immigrants in particular
-The student is able to give guidance on chronic diseases´ causes, prevention and management
-The Student will gain an understanding of the role of the public and third sector in health promotion
-The student will provide participants with information on the role of the public and third sector in health promotion.
-The student is able to perform health checks to determine participants´ health status
-The student is able to understand health determinants from cultural perspective
-The student will be able build own network through collaboration with different organizations involved in the planning and implementation of the project.
-The student will be able to guide patients on the use of Digi-health services and applications in promoting own health

Content

HEED Association is a non-governmental and nonprofit making association, which has three main goals: to promote health, education and integration of immigrants in Finland.
Chronic disease has become a global problem affecting millions of people all over the world. The prevalence of this problem is on the rise and Finland is not an exception. The goal of this project is to raise awareness and give guidance on chronic diseases using different methods to the general population and immigrants in particular. The project is also to raise awareness on the role of the public and third sector in health promotion.

Teaching methods

This course is implemented as a project, which will includes project planning meetings, project implementation and evaluation.

Location and time

Project meetings will take place in Laurea-Tikkurila. Implementation of the project will be done in the greater helsinki area including Espoo, Helsinki, Vantaa, Kerava

Learning materials and recommended literature

All learning material will be uploaded in Optima.

Content and scheduling

- Students will attend project idea seminar, planning, implementation and evaluation of the project
- Students will perform health checks around the Greater Helsinki Area
- Students will assist in coordinating health seminars organized around the Greater Helsinki Area
- Students will produce health promotion leaflets and posters for a given disease
- Students will help in coordinating sporting activities

The project will be implemented in the greater Helsinki areas during the month of JUNE 2020
