Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- describe the processes of information systems development, implementation and maintenance
- describe the structure and operational environment of information systems
- identify typical threats related to information security

Teaching methods

This study unit is an introduction to IT and computer networks. We will meet weekly and discuss various issues from IT as a profession to systems development and networks security. We will also have visiting lecturers.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The evaluation is based on two small exams and participation in the discussions and assignments.

Evaluation criteria, fail (0)

The student has not demonstrated his learning during the class room sessions and /or exams.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student is able to describe systems development, testing, IP networking and IT security on basic level.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

The students is familiar with IT related terms and issues. The student can describe IT systems development processes and the operation of internet on general level. The student has participated in the lectures, discussions and work assignmnets.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

The student can relate individual terms and processes into the larger picture of current IT environments and work place. The student has actively participated in discussions and work assignments during the study unit implementation.
