Medication Treatment and Medication Calculations 2. (4 cr)

Objective

The student is able to
- apply knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology and the basics of medication treatment when planning, implementing and evaluating treatment for patients with internal medicine and infectious diseases
- describe the main drug classifications, drugs’ active ingredients and medicines used in long-term and acute care and their mechanisms
- justify the practices of safe and aseptic vaccination
- justify the necessity and benefits of safe vaccines for individuals, communities and society
- plan, implement and assess administration of intravenous medication and intravenous infusions
- implement safe and aseptic medication treatment using different routes of administration

Part 4: IV therapy - theory 0,5cr = 13,5 hours of student workload
Part 5: IV therapy workshops 0,5cr = 13,5 hours of student workload

Further information

Groups for vaccination and IV cannulation workshop will be determined later. Compulsory attendance in both theory and workshop.

Medication calculation is part of Module II implementation. A student MUST past medication calculation before going for placement II.
