Learning outcomes

Student is able to
- apply theoretical approaches in service design
- apply and analyze service design methods and tools in each SD process phase
- plan and execute service design project
- identify various roles in service design
- synthesize learnings from previous studies in project work
- evaluate service concept implementation and impact
- reflect and critically evaluate development work, design project and learning

Materials

Materials and literature is detailed in Canvas; service design literature, in general.

Teaching methods

understand the theoretical framework and key concepts related to service design
- understand the service design process according to the Double Diamond model
- use service design methods and tools and actively participate in a design project in practice for a real-life company
- reflect and critically evaluate development work and design projects from the perspective of the key stakeholder

Syncronic online course, which has deadlines for assignments. The course is modular; each forming a clear content and learning assignments. Learning assignments are clarified in Canvas environment in more detail.

The course starts with orientation; individual assignment.
It must be execute by given schedule. All assignments and attendance to the contact session are mandatory.

Mandatory = assignment needs to be executed according to the assignment's instructions.
The first webinar will be held in 12 September 2022.
Guiding sessions are organized, information later.
All assignments must be returned by 18.11.2022 at 23.59 in order to be evaluated.
Results webinar with the client will be announced later - in November 2022

Employer connections

Practical work with service design.
A client provides a design brief, which will include the challenges - to be solved as a group work; following the given service design process and roles.

Exam schedules

Orientation week is used to define weather the student will start the course.
During the project; the project group rules and schedules must be followed. Commitment to the group work and client's given assignment.

International connections

International literature, and hopefully also non-Finnish students in the course.
Teaching language English.

5 ects; 27 h work/ ects. - 130h work / student

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

This is a master’s level (EQF7) 5 ects study unit. 5 ects means 135 hours of work from a student (1 credit = 27 hours of work).
Hence, make time in your calendar for your studies.
The role of the student is to be active and responsible of his/her learning.

Content scheduling

Max. points of the course 100p. evaluation as execution and peer-evaluation activities.
Minimum to pass is 60ppoints.
