Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- define international preparedness and crisis management operators and their roles
- define fundamental international preparedness and crisis management compliance requirements and best practices
- define global threats and analyze their impact to society

Materials

All needed learning material is uploaded on Canvas workspace. You can familiarize yourself with the topics of study unit in Finnish Institute of International Affairs (Finnish Institute of International Affairs and publications).

Teaching methods

Virtual implementation with individual and team work. Before enrolling to this study unit, you should have adequate competence level of security management, which you can acquire for example by completing study unit: TO00BS57 Basic Theory of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (MOOC).

The study unit starts and Canvas-workspace opens early May 2022. After approval it's the students responsibility to follow the study unit guidelines and finish all assignments. All assignments must be returned by the end of the study unit 31.8.2022. A more detailed implementation plan with learning events will be published also in Canvas-workspace.

Exam schedules

Canvas workspace will open on 2nd of May 2022 and close on 31st of August 2022.

To apply for the recognition of this study unit, complete the form for recognition of prior studies. Enclose with your application any documents you refer to. If required, also enclose a description of the content of the substitute studies. The partial recognition of studies must be agreed on with the teacher of this study unit latest week 19 (9.5.2022-->).

Student workload

This is study unit of 5 credits. One credit is 27 hours of work. So this means that you have be prepared to work
135 hours to complete.

Content scheduling

Study unit consist of orientation and three modules as follows.
- Orientation (individual assignment) (Fail/pass)
- Essay ((individual assignment) (40%)
- Media follow-up (team assignment) (40%)
- On-line exam ((individual assignment) (20%)

Further information

Tutoring:
Tutoring is available on beforehand set days and upon request. Personal discussion times should be pre-agreed with teacher.
Communication:
Zoom or Teams- application will be used for tutoring and general information sharing. The lecturers will in advance create a Teams- group for this study unit and invite the students to join.
Canvas is used for formal information, material sharing and storing, returning assignments, etc.
If necessary, other means of communication will be agreed by the learning community commonly in the beginning of the study unit.
Changes to preliminary program are possible, but the students will be notified if necessarily.
