Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
- describe legislation relating to premises safety and security
- identify typical risks relating to premises safety and security
- plan the structural, technical and operational protection and surveillance methods of premises based on identified risks
Teaching methods
The study unit includes scheduled on-campus teaching, independently completed online sections and online guidance.
The study involves pair or group work. No personal feedback is given by the teacher for the independently completed sections (a separate safety course for residential properties its own final exam and an online course exam). Group-specific feedback is given by the teacher for the development assignment, and work-life and peer feedback can also be utilized. The implementation of the study is supported by a learning environment built into Canvas, which describes more detailed schedules and the course of the study. From a learning perspective, it is highly recommended to participate in the on-campus contact teaching and online guidance according to the schedule.
The study involves a learning assignment in groups related to the safety of the premises. The groups acquire the location themselves. The requirement is that the site must be a business premises or other workplace for example, so not a residential building. Students have the actual opportunity to examine and develop issues related to its structural and technical protection and supervision (recommend access to the premises and the opportunity to interview the party responsible for security). If necessary, teachers will assist in finding the site.
Ethical and transparent use of artificial intelligence in accordance with Laurea's guidelines is permitted in the course. If artificial intelligence is utilized in assignments, it must be described in the submission. Artificial intelligence may not be used to produce the final assignment text, and such text or images created with artificial intelligence may not be presented as having been created by the student. In cases of fraud, Laurea's degree regulations are followed. If the teacher suspects fraudulent use of artificial intelligence in their course, they can arrange a different way for the student to verify their competence in which artificial intelligence cannot be used. The performance may be deemed fraudulent if it is sufficiently likely to have been performed by artificial intelligence or if the use of artificial intelligence has not been disclosed or referred to in the correct manner. If the student refuses alternative verification of competence, the fraud procedure of Laurea's degree regulations will be followed.
Laurea's degree students in Safety, Security and Risk Management complete the study in parallel with the online course "Preparedness". (Excluding degree students who have already completed the study in question or whose PSP schedule has changed.)

Alternative completion methods of implementation
According to the Degree Regulations, a student has the right to apply for recognition of competence regardless of where, how and when the competence was acquired. If you have previously completed similar studies at another higher education institution, please contact your head of student affairs.
Other demonstration of previously acquired competence:
Recognition of previously acquired competence occurs at the student's initiative. The assessment is made using the same assessment criteria and, as a rule, the same grading scale as for the corresponding course or module. The student has the right to apply for recognition of previously acquired competence regardless of where, how and when the competence was acquired.
The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying his or her competence and providing sufficient information. Recognition and recognition of previously acquired competence occurs before the start of the course. The student completes the competence analysis and registers for the examination in Canvas according to the instructions and schedules given.
If your competence partially corresponds to the competence objectives of the course, discuss the matter directly with the teacher responsible for the course. Contact your teacher well in advance of the start of the course. The teacher responsible for the course will assess your skills and guide you further in this matter.
Co-operation with working life and/or RDI
Development task should be completed in working life collaboration.
Important dates
Based on the Degree Regulations (2024), a student who has been accepted for implementation is required to confirm their participation by demonstrating activity at the start of the study in the following way:
To demonstrate activity, the student must be present at the first contact or notify the responsible teacher of their absence to confirm their participation in the study unit. The registration will be rejected if the student does not notify their absence at the start of the study or the reason for the absence cannot be considered justified. Another student may be taken in their place.
The first contact is 14.1.

Student workload
The workload of the study is designed so that one credit corresponds to an average of 26.7 hours of work by the student in order to acquire the competence required. The actual time requirement varies, for example due to previous competence.
The course requires an estimated 135 hours of student work, which means an average of approximately 10 hours/week divided over the entire course duration.

Evaluation methods and criteria
The assessment of competence is based on the objective descriptions and the level of competence is assessed based on the assessment criteria announced in the study implementation plan (Degree Regulations 2024).
The assessment of the course is based on the development assignment and an exam. The passing marks and the criteria for determining the grades are described in the Canvas workspace. Three attempts have been given fo the exam. These attempts include the retakes in accordance with Laurea's degree regulations. If the student does not pass the exam the third time, he or she must register for the implementation again.
The assessment of the study uses criteria according to the level I of the competence assessment framework.
