Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- explain the main concepts of anatomy and physiology
- describe the structure and functioning of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems, and explain their significance in the functioning of the human body as a whole
- explain the main concepts of microbiology and pathology, and the classification of diseases
- explain the significance of microbes for human health and the causation of infectious diseases
- explain how different factors affect the causation of diseases and cause changes in the body
- explain the different types of tissue damage, their causation mechanisms and symptoms

Materials

Anatomy and physiology: Lecture slides, self-study materials and any current book on anatomy and physiology. (Recommended: "Anatomy and Physiology 2e", OpenStax.)

Microbiology and pathophysiology: Self-study materials.

Teaching methods

Anatomy and physiology (4 cr): Contact teaching (not recorded), self-study assignments and three exams.

Microbiology and pathophysiology (1 cr): Self-study assignments and one exam.

Mandatory attendance on first lecture. (Notify teacher if you are absent; otherwise, your spot might be given to someone else.)
