- apply the legislation and information guidance related to medication treatment
- provide safe medication treatment
- administer medication treatment via the enteral and topical routes and as injections
- use different pharmaceutical databases

Teaching methods

Part 3. Workshops 0,5cr (100% presence)

This will be scheduled in Pakki.
Group divisions will be discussed during the 1st lecture. Mandatory presence at the orientation.

The dates of the submission of assignments, exams and opportunities to retake examinations in the implementation can be found from Canvas.

According to the degree regulations (section 18) “students must be present in the first contact session or notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrollment will be rejected. Another student in the queue may be enrolled in the study unit in the place of the absent student.” (Laurea degree regulations) In the case of online studies the lecturer can also specify some other way than participation on an online meeting what is required from the student so that he/she verifies his/her attendance on the study unit (Decision by the vice president, education 7/2019).

Medication treatment:
- Legislation regulating medication treatment
- Safe medication treatment processes and medication treatment plan
- Aseptic techniques in medication treatment
- The role, tasks and responsibility of nurses in medication treatment
- Forms and routes of medication administration
- Pharmaceutical service
- Pharmaceutical technology
- Basic knowledge of drug allergies and anaphylaxis

Medication calculations:
- Conversion of units
- calculating percentages
- solid and liquid medicine
- weight based calculations
- (basic) gas calculations

Workshops:
Workshop 1: subcutaneous injection (abdominal region and upper arm)
Workshop 2: intramuscular (thigh) and ventrogluteal injection
Workshop 3: dispensing medication
