Materials
Course material can be found from Canvas. Main laws to be covered in this course are Social Welfare Act, Client Act, Child Welfare Act. Some of the material is in Finnish as not all laws are officially translated. Therefore students might need to use translators for some materials.
Teaching methods
A Canvas learning environment is used to support the implementation, but it is important to take part in teaching and guidance on campus according to schedule. The study unit includes individual assignments and working in groups. You will receive individual feedback for assignments from the teacher via Canvas learning environment.
Students receive guidance during lectures at the Campus. In personal matters students should email the teacher directly.
Participation to lectures given in the schedule is important and compensatory assignments are given if the student misses lectures. Compensatory assignments should be submitted within week of absence. No feedback is given for compensatory assignment.
Students can use AI in their assignments when constructing a structure for their essays, but all text should be written by the students. If a student uses AI in their work they need to explain where and how AI was used in the assignment. Tournitin programm for plagiarism is used in all submitted assignments.
Employer connections
Visitors are planned as guest lecturers during this course. Most of the visitors speak in English but also Finnish speaking visitors might be coming.
In this course we are having a LbD type of working life project that requires students to conduct the project outside scheduled lecture times.
Exam schedules
Based on the degree regulations (2024), the student accepted for the implementation is required to confirm their participation by showing activity at the start of the study in the following way:
In order to demonstrate activity, the student must be present at the first contact lesson or notify the teacher in charge of their absence to confirm their participation in the study. Registration will be rejected if the student does not report their absence at the start of the study or the reason for the absence cannot be considered justified. Another student can be taken in their place. The first contact lesson is 27.8.2025

The recognition and accreditation of prior learning is initiated by the student themselves. The student is responsible for demonstrating and verifying their competence. The student is entitled to guidance for the recognition and accreditation of their competence; Further information in the student intranet.
