Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
- define risk, safety and security management compliance requirements, best practices and apply those
- assess and manage organisations’ risks comprehensively
- plan, assess and develop risk, safety and security management
- lead and manage safety and security management operations in normal, disturbance and crisis situations
- assess and develop safety and security culture
Teaching methods
The study unit is implemented as a blended learning. i.e. teaching takes place both on Leppävaara campus and on ZOOM meetings. The study unit will last the entire spring semester and it will start on January 13, 2023 at 12.30 - 15.00 as a classroom teaching.
You must be present in the first classroom teaching session of the study unit or you must notify the teachers (soili.martikainen@laurea.fi, timo.savolainen@laurea.fi) of your absence to confirm you intent to participate in studies. Attending Zoom meetings is not mandatory, but recomended.
The study unit begins with the orientation module and continues through eight different modules.The modules include assignments which will be made in pairs. The student will decide which assignments he / she will carry out. The study unit also includes an orientation assignment and a web exam made individually. The student will collect points from the assignments and the exam based on which the grade is determined.
Location and time
The study unit will start on January 13, 2023 at 12.30 - 15.00 in Leppävaara campus with the orientation module. The schedule of the study unit is available in Canvas and in Pakki. Canvas workspace will be opened about a week before the first classroom teaching takes place.

Literature has been given for each module in the Canvas workspace and the student will also look for the appropriate literature by himself/herself for the assignments. Examples of Literature:

Alternative completion methods of implementation
There are optional learning assignments from which the student can choose the tasks that are suitable for him/her.
In demonstration of competence, you can prove you have the competence corresponding to your degree’s learning outcomes, irrespective of where, how and when you have acquired it. In the process, it is essential that you identify your competence and describe it in concrete terms and compare it with the learning outcomes of the study unit. Forms of internationality
International connections appear in the theoretical framework. The study unit deals with international standards of risk, safety and security management. In the videos of the study unit material, international experts will demonstrate how to implement risk-based management.
Students workload
The calculated work load of the study unit is 270 hours (= 10 credits).

Evaluation methods and criteria
The evaluation is based on the implementation plan of the study unit. Individual assessment criteria and points are given in each assignment. In the study course, points are collected from assignments and exams, based on which the grade of the study course is determined. The point boundaries are described in Canvas. In the introduction to the exam, it is stated which is the maximum score of the exam and which is the score of a failed performance. The study unit is evaluated by using a scale of 1–5, level II.
Qualifications
Before enrolling to this study unit, you should have adequate competence of safety, security and risk management, which you can acquire for example by completing study unit HT00BN79 Basics of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (10 cr) or TO00BS57 Basic Theory of Corporate Safety, Security and Risk Management (5 cr) at Open University of Applied Sciences
