Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- use planning, analysis and decision-making tools and techniques in strategic planning
- analyze financial statements and business reports and use them as a basis for decisions
- make business decisions in various business contexts
- apply data in decision making

Materials

All material and links can be found in Classroom workspace. The study material is mainly provided through Ebook Central, the link can be found on the first page of LaureaFinna. The material will be presented in starting session 2nd March. Please familiarize yourself with downloading instructions on Laurea library webpages. The instructors will guide the students to additional material.

Teaching methods

This course runs on individual effort. The chapters and main topics are
- Service industry
- Industry analysis
- Strategic management
- Financial performance

The course consists of three assignments and two quizzes. Each part makes up 20% of the grade. The final grade consists of the total score of quizzes and assignments. No single return is compulsory, instead you need collect 40% of the total points to pass the course. The returned assignments are assessed based on the following criteria:
• Contents of the answers (theories, research results and facts)
• Argumentation and references
• Examples and practical applications
Quizzes and assignments which miss the return deadline will not be graded.

Learning environment is Google Classroom and students will be sent instructions needed before the start.

Attending the starting Zoom session 2nd March is compulsory to attend the course.

Guidance and communication take place in Classroom platform and by email if necessary.

Assignments will be graded within 3 weeks of each deadline.

Completion alternatives

According to the degree regulations “all students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognised and accredited by the teacher responsible for the module or study unit or another person designated by the director of the UAS unit. The assessment is carried out according to the same criteria and grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit.” For further information visit Link.

Further information

The study unit corresponds to the requirements of Bachelor's level education.

According to the degree regulations (section 18) “students must be present in the first contact session or notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrolment will be rejected. Another student in the queue may be enrolled in the study unit in the place of the absent student.”

Attending the starting Zoom session 2nd March is compulsory to attend the course.
