Learning outcomes

Student is able to
- regard the specific characteristics of leadership in a intercultural environment
- manage the dynamics of an intercultural team working and communication in given organizational setup

Materials

All material can be found in Canvas workspace, excluding the summary task where you will find additional material by yourself.

Teaching methods

The course is run as a virtual self-study unit on Canvas platform. There are four main topics which are
1. Cultural Dimensions
2. Global Virtual Teams
3. Intercultural Competence
4. Intercultural Leadership

The course consists of 4 modules which give the theoretical basis for the tasks. First three topics have tasks linked to them. In addition, there is a summary task. These need to be completed in time. By completing the first task in time student will be able to continue study unit. Tasks will be graded in 0-5 scale. All tasks must be passed in in time in order to gain the final grade and 5 credits.

The tasks can be conducted either individually or with a pair. (Please note that if you work with a pair, that will be it for all the tasks.)

Guidance and communication take place in Canvas platform discussion forum and by email if necessary.

Exam schedules

The Canvas workspace will open on 1st February. Schedule and deadlines for the tasks can be seen in Pakki.

The study unit is suitable for exchange students.

Completion alternatives

According to the degree regulations “all students are entitled to demonstrate their competence. The recognition and accreditation of prior competence is initiated by the students themselves. The competence is recognised and accredited by the teacher responsible for the module or study unit or another person designated by the director of the UAS unit. The assessment is carried out according to the same criteria and grading scale as that adopted for the corresponding study unit.” For further information visit Link.

Student workload

One credit equals approximately 26.7 hours of work performed by the student.

Content scheduling

Brief feedback of submitted tasks will be sent via Canvas within three weeks of each deadline.

Further information

The study unit corresponds to the requirements of Bachelor's level education.

According to the degree regulations (section 18) “students must be present in the first contact session or notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrolment will be rejected. Another student in the queue may be enrolled in the study unit in the place of the absent student.”

In this course the attendance is verified by first assignment returned on deadline date. Students must notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend.
