Materials

Teachers will provide relevant materials. All required reading will be either distributed via Optima, available freely on the internet, or available in Finna as ebooks. In addition, legislation is available in the Finlex-service; the exam will test knowledge and application of specifically indicated sections of e.g. labour legislation. Materials created by teachers (copyright holders) are licensed CC-BY-NC-SA unless otherwise noted.

Teaching methods

The study unit is implemented in the following ways:
-Eight contact sessions
-Online materials and independent studying between contact sessions (available in Optima)
-Completion of one individual assignment
-Completion of one group assignment
-Completion of one individual exam

Communication of study unit will be handled via Optima workspace message boards. Private messages to teachers should be handled via email.

Employer connections

Assignments require reflection on students' current or past work experience. Assignments and study unit content aim to develop students' understanding of requirements of current working life.

Exam schedules

-Contact sessions are directly visible in Pakki and not repeated here.
-According to the degree regulations (section 18): students must be present in the first contact session (which is 22.1.2020) or notify their teacher in charge if they cannot attend. If they fail to notify the teacher of their absence in the first contact session, their enrollment will be rejected.
-Exam will be open in Optima 20.5.2020 between 8:00 and 12:00. Completion will take one hour. NOTE: begin your exam before 11:00.

Student workload

The workload is approximately 135 hours total, divided as follows (estimate based on calculations):
- Contact sessions 24 hours
- Individual studying and preparation of individual assignment 22 hours
- Preparation and completion of exam 22 hours
- Group project work, guidance, reporting and preparing presentation of group assignment 67 hours (per student)

As study unit is completed in a span of 17 weeks, students should book on average approximately 8 hours a week towards this study unit, during weeks 4-21.
