Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- review the necessary information on the basic concepts of chemistry, such as the atom, molecule, and periodic system
- distinguish between ionic bonds and covalent bonds and provide examples of typical bonds
- explain the polarity of a covalent bond and its significance for the properties of a compound
- determine the difference between strong and weak bonds, and the significance of weak bonds for the state of a substance
- describe common functional groups in general, and especially through examples of cosmetics compounds
- name organic compounds according to systematic naming conventions
- calculate the amounts and concentrations of substances and identify the significance of the Avogadro constant in substance amounts, including from the perspective of cosmetics
