Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- assess the need for care of seriously ill children and young people and apply nursing expertise in the overall treatment of these patients in the operations of a multidisciplinary team
- actively participate as an expert in nursing in the decision-making regarding the treatment of seriously ill children and young people together with the parents and other experts
- apply nursing methods in the nursing of seriously ill children and young people
- instruct families with children in need of special support, taking into account their service needs, treatment paths and possibilities for receiving support in multidisciplinary cooperation
- meet children, young people and families in crisis and apply resource-centred guidance and counselling methods in order to help them
- analyse special ethical questions related to the nursing of seriously ill children and young people
- assess and develop nursing of children, young people and families in light of science-based knowledge, recommendations and good practices
