Behavioral economics assumes that people are boundedly rational actors with limited cognitive processing power and time, whose choices are influenced by the contexts in which decisions are embedded. (Samson, Behavioral Economics Guide 2017)
Behavioral economics takes into account the effects of psychological, social, cognitive, and emotional factors on economic decision making. During this course we will study them, discuss the role of rationality and emotions in purchasing decisions and seek to understand the mechanisms that define judgment processes.
The assignments that arrive late will be graded only if the late handing in has been agreed in advance with the teacher. The honoring of deadlines is taken into account in the grading. The late handing in will lower the grade, and if not justified, disallows the completing of this course.

Understanding customers can be challenging. How do we define what is valuable for an individual customer? What about organizations as customers? Today, many of the trends are international, but their local interpretation and implementation may still be very multifold. The study of the human mind has gone a long way, but part of the mind’s operations, especially on individual level, still remain difficult to forecast.
During this course we will define the factors that underlie customer actions, feelings, and judgment processes. We strive to understand purchasing decisions from the perspective of the individual and the organization, and analyze patterns and trends in customer behaviour.
The course grade is composed of two assignments which both need to be successfully completed and handed in by the deadlines. The assignments that arrive late will be graded only if the late handing in has been agreed in advance with the teacher. The honoring of deadlines is taken into account in the grading. The late handing in will lower the grade, and if not justified, disallows the completing of this course.

This implementation consists of two separate parts. The first part (Theory section) is a prerequisite for the second part (Project section).
The Theory section (online) runs through (5 Sep - 9 Oct 2022) and needs to be completed before taking the Project section. Theory includes learning of service design process (Double Diamond), methods and tools independently in Canvas working space.
The Project section (on campus) starts with a kick-off on 11 Oct and ends on 4 Dec please check the schedule in Pakki. Contact lessons are held on campus. During the project section teams will carry out a service design project based on a real-life design challenge. Between the meetings on campus the teams work in the virtual learning environment Canvas.
Taking part in the contact sessions on campus is crucial as we work in teams and use co-creation methods during the sessions. Between the contact sessions the teams will work according to their own agreement (online or off), following the service design process.
In case you are unable to take part in the contact sessions on campus, please choose another implementation for this study unit.
THEORY SECTION: 3 ects
Individual assignments, 5 Quizzes on Canvas, scale 1-5
PROJECT SECTION: 7 ects
Team assignment: service concept and service design portfolio, scale 1-5
Self- and peer assessment, instructor assessment.
In this study unit the assessing of the competences will be done by using the criteria set for requirement level II.
