Learning outcomes

After completing the project, the student is able to
- differentiate internal and external entrepreneurship and act accordingly
- analyze business potential in different ideas, markets or segments
- use business model canvas as a planning tool
- optimize functions and offerings according to the context

Teaching methods

This course is a combination of lessons, visits and meetings with entrepreneurs anc companies and your own refletion to the themed topics.

Location and time

Course will be held between March and May. First lessons are scheduled in early March and deadline for your personal essay will take a place in end of May.

Learning materials and recommended literature

All material and book tips are given in start of the course.

Co-operation with working life and/or RDI

We will do part of this course together with working life by visiting and getting know to companies and entrepreneurs.

Students workload

Lessons and events or visits are about 60% of your working time. Other 40% will be your own work with assingments.

Further information for students

Did you knew that 93,3% of Finnish companies are micro companies, so they have less than ten employees? (According the study of Bureau of Statistics, 2016) In this course we will found out more what kind of is this huge sector of companies and how do they work. The teacher of this course is one of these micro entrepreneurs, and guide you to understand small businesses. You will also meet some other entrepreneurs and get to know Finnish companies. You will write an essay about you as an entrepreneur and consider your personal skills and characteristics as a potential entrepreneur.

Evaluation methods and criteria

You are evaluated based on your individual achievement in your personal essay essay. In addition to this, the grade is influenced by participation and presence of activity.

Evaluation criteria, fail (0)

If student does not submit his / her assignments, essay or do not participate in meetings and classes, she / he will fail the course. Also if the assignment are not done according to the instructions, teacher can give evaluate the course as failed.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Student is able to..
- follow the instructions
- understand the most important concept of the course
- understand the most important concept of the essay assignment
- find and use sources for the essay

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Student is able to...
- active independently according to the instructions
- use learned new words around the topic
- understand the most important concepts of the course and see and analyze them in bigget picture
- understand and analyze the concept of the essay assingment and reflect his/her own skills and learnings under the topic
- find and use sources and apply them in the topic of the essay

Student is able to...
- active in independent, developing and active way
- use the pofessional language and new learned words around the course topic
- see the concept of the course in wider picture and analyze it
- understand and analyze the concept of the essay assingment and reflect his/her own skills and learnings under the topic
